Clinton calls half of Trump supporters ‘basket of deplorables’
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton regrets saying “half” of Republican rival Donald Trump’s supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables, ‘ but made no apologies for calling out ‘prejudice and paranoia” among Trump’s campaign and supporters.

Hillary Clinton verbally banished half of Donald Trump’s backers to a “basket of deplorables”, and the Republican presidential nominee quickly pounced, saying Saturday she had smeared many Americans and would pay a heavy political price.
Social conservative say Hillary Clinton’s description of half of Mr. Trump’s supporters as “deplorable” reflects her “elitist” tendencies and will further unify voters against her.
They were, she told the LGBT event, “racist, sexist, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it”.
“Hillary Clinton’s low opinion of the people who support this campaign should be denounced in the strongest possible terms”, Pence said at the annual Values Voter Summit in Washington.
“He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric”, Clinton said.
Liberals and members of the press have sharply criticized Lauer, the longtime host of The Today Show, for what they said was too much focus on Clinton’s email scandal and letting Trump off the hook on false statements.
On Saturday, she said in part: “Last night I was “grossly generalistic, ‘ and that’s never a good idea”. He wrote: “While Hillary said terrible things about my supporters, and while many of her supporters will never vote for me, I still respect them all!”
“David Duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values”, she said in the statement.
This is a developing story.
Clinton made her remarks at an LGBT fundraiser in NY late Friday.
Romney was recorded on video saying at a fundraiser that 47% of Americans would automatically vote for President Obama because they were dependent upon government and paid no taxes, and that his job was not to worry about them. After Trump touted 88 retired military figures backing his campaign earlier this week, Clinton’s campaign has sought to keep the upper hand, noting her growing list of endorsements.
Other Republicans mocked Mrs Clinton, sharing photos of the crowd in the Florida venue where Mr Trump spoke on Friday. And he has lifted them up. What did Trump have to say about making attacks on America for a Russian audience?
-Clinton has called a segment of Trump’s supporters “deplorables” before, most recently in an interview with an Israeli television station earlier this week.
Mary Beth Kustra, also of Virginia, said Mrs. Clinton is getting desperate and turning to a divide and conquer strategy.

The statement was aimed at shutting down the blowback from the Trump campaign and Republicans and preserving Clinton’s appeal to moderate Republicans and independents.
