Clinton Calls Tulsa Police Shooting Of Unarmed Black Man ‘Intolerable’

He said the videos clearly show Crutcher posed no threat to officers. The police chief in Tulsa says Crutcher, a black man fatally shot by a white police officer responding to a stalled vehicle, had no weapon on him or in his SUV.

On Tuesday morning, Muterspaw wrote on his Facebook page that he was “so sick, exhausted and mentally drained from seeing things like this” after watching the deadly shooting in Oklahoma.

According to Reuters, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler assured the public in a statement that the criminal investigation will be thorough and that he will make sure that “the facts fit the law”.

We now know that PCP was found in the auto. “And maybe I can, by speaking directly to white people, say, ‘Look, this is not who we are.'” Clinton said.

Kaepernick said Tuesday that “everybody’s eyes” will be on Tulsa as authorities investigate the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher.

Since being named police chief two years ago, Muterspaw said his department has increased its community relations and outreach. According to Tulsa County Deputy Justin Green, Shelby’s use of force incident happened when she was serving a warrant on a suspect in 2010.

Officer Betty Shelby shot Terence Crutcher, 40, after his sport utility vehicle broke down on Friday.

Police in Tulsa recently released video that shows officers shooting and killing an unarmed black man.

Crutcher was fatally shot by a police officer in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 16.

But Damario Solomon-Simmons, another attorney for Crutcher’s family, said Shelby and other officers had no way of knowing about Crutcher’s background or the potential for drugs in his vehicle when they approached him Friday.

Officer Tyler Turnbough, who is also white, used a stun gun on Crutcher, police said.

Benjamin Crump, one of the attorneys for Crutcher’s family, said Monday that Crutcher committed no crime and gave officers no reason to shoot him. “That looks like a bad dude, too”, said another officer.

Ryan Kiesel, executive director of The American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma, accused Tulsa police of shirking their “legal and moral obligation” by failing to render aid to Crutcher, 40, immediately after the shooting.

Crutcher couldn’t have reached into the vehicle, Crump said, because enhanced photos of the vehicle taken from police video show that the window was rolled up.

Lois Shelby told The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday that Shelby “thought she had to protect her own life” when she fatally shot Crutcher.

One thing is certain, the minutes leading up to Officer Shelby pointing her gun at Crutcher and ultimately shooting him are missing.

Officer Betty Shelby was first on the scene and was unsure of what to expect.

Since she had not turned on her siren, in apparent violation of policy, her dashboard camera did not record Shelby’s initial interaction with Crutcher.

The Tulsa Police Department on Tuesday claimed it found a vial of PCP in Terence Crutcher’s van on the night that he was fatally shot by police officers. In the days since the footage was released, the Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Crutcher’s death. If the DA concludes charges are called for, he then asks a judge – not a grand jury – to rule on whether the prosecution can move forward.

Officer Betty Shelby was among the officers who responded.

Police showed the video to Crutcher’s family Sunday afternoon, and then to a group of local community leaders and ministers.

Wood also said that Shelby has been receiving death threats.

Police told the Associated Press that Shelby had a stun gun when she shot Crutcher, but did not use it. Shelby also carried a stun gun, authorities said.

Shelby’s lawyer, Scott Wood, says his client initially believed Crutcher was on PCP.

State and federal investigations into the shooting death are underway. Shelby is on paid administrative leave.

The vehicle is stopped in the middle of the road. A pop is heard as he appears to place his hands on the vehicle and he falls a few seconds later. Crutcher died at a hospital later that evening. “I think everybody needs to check themselves”. One of the officers near Crutcher backs up slightly.

Then nearly immediately, someone can be heard saying, “Shots fired”. Crutcher’s head then drops, leaving him lying out in the street.

“Does the officer have to see a gun or be shot at before they fire? We have one suspect down”.
