Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns has become a controversy in the presidential campaign.

Republican vice-presidential nominee Gov. Mike Pence says he and running-mate Donald Trump will release their respective tax returns.

Donald Trump and I are both going to release our tax returns.

“Well, I promise you, the person leading Donald Trump’s campaign is Donald Trump”, said Pence.

Democratic nominee and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton released her 2015 tax returns in August and 8 years of personal income tax returns.

It makes sense Pence is releasing his returns. “And Donald Trump is just simply not going to do that”, Pence asserted. Todd asks. “Releasing the tax returns”.

Clinton’s returns, released last month, showed she and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, had adjusted gross income of $10.6 million a year ago, placing them at the very top of American households. The Indiana governor is going the traditional route and releasing his returns for transparency with voters and the press.

They also point out that Trump’s lawyers have some ability to slow down the audit process as well, so if Team Trump doesn’t want a timely release, they can work against that. Todd asked Pence “if you guys were as transparent” with the returns, would that be a better attack on Clinton. And while Pence told NBC that he would release his returns “in the next week”, he did not give a specific timeline for Trump to do the same. Mike Pence should be reminded that Hillary Clinton has denied allegations against her too, but she still gets hit from Republicans.

The tax exchange followed a discussion on the latest documents released from the FBI investigation into Clinton’s private server, where Pence charged Clinton with being “the most dishonest candidate for president of the United States since Richard Nixon”.
