Clinton Campaign Computer Network Was Hacked

While the Federal Bureau of Investigation says there’s not yet proof Russian hackers were involved, some threat assessment companies have found limited evidence of a connection. More than 19,000 emails from DNC officials were published on WikiLeaks just prior to the Democratic National Convention, casting a shadow over the proceedings. Upon discovering the breach, “we immediately took action and engaged with CrowdStrike, a leading forensic investigator, to assist us in addressing the incident”, said Meredith Kelly, a spokeswoman for the DCCC.

The Clinton campaign downplayed the severity of the latest hacking, maintaining it was confined to “an analytics data program maintained by the DNC, and used by our campaign and a number of other entities”, spokesman Nick Merrill said.

Update 6:59pm: The NYT report now refers to “computer systems connected to the campaign of Hillary Clinton” and makes no mention of email accounts.

Earlier Friday, Reuters reported the DCCC, which works to elect Democratic candidates to the House, was also targeted.

USA intelligence officials and private experts believe that the cyber attacks were committed by agents working for the Russian government.

The Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, which also houses the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The hacking against the Democratic National Committee (DCCC) in now under investigation by FBI.

Clinton and President Barack Obama have both suggested that the cyber assaults were conducted to benefit Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. Democrats accused him of trying to get a foreign adversary to conduct espionage that could affect this November’s elections, but Trump later said he was merely being sarcastic. Documents showed that some party officials favored presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and sought to undermine her rival Bernie Sanders in the primary race, sparking anger among Sanders supporters and forcing the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz last Sunday.

In fact, as more of the cyber-security sector and the media’s efforts concentrated on the original DNC hack, the more it became apparent its ties to Russian Federation.
