Clinton Campaign Defends Meetings With Donors Following AP Report

USA Today has joined other papers and Republicans calling for the Clinton Foundation to be shut down amid allegations of corruption.

Asked why the foundation didn’t simply turn over its programs to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation or some other charity, she said it was now looking for partners. “What the Clinton Foundation did was create a conduit whereby a foreign entity who cannot donate to a campaign, and get access that way, could donate to the Clinton Foundation”, he added.

Robby Mook said Clinton “is out there answering questions”. “This is a distorted portrayal of how often she crossed paths with individuals connected to charitable donations to the Clinton Foundation”.

“Donald Trump and his bottom line and his networks are directly connected to all kinds of global entities. and nobody’s asking him to disclose or divest”, Mook said of the NY businessman.

But the Clintons’ daughter, Chelsea, who also is a board member, says she plans to stay, The Wall Street Journal reports.

“So I just think, you know, it’s election season, but I feel good about it”, he said.

The Clinton Foundation has been an ongoing source of problems for her campaign, with questions about whether there was inappropriate contact between its staff and official Clinton State Department aides.

An Associated Press report found that more than half the people outside the government who met or spoke by telephone with Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state had given money either personally or through companies or groups to the Clinton Foundation.

He also defended Hillary Clinton’s contact with donors to the foundation while serving as secretary of state, saying foundation donors like Bangladeshi economist and Nobel Peace Prize victor Muhammad Yunus have no trouble reaching officials around the world.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller released a statement Friday night saying: “It is unacceptable that the State Department is now refusing to release her official schedule before the election in full”. The foundation would shrink its operations, “spin off” all foreign endeavors and stop taking donations from foreign individuals and foreign governments.
