Clinton charity donors make the case for wind-down

You have the e-mail about – the e-mails regarding the person given a seat on the Intelligence Advisory Committee because of his involvement, or at least related to his involvement in the Clinton Foundation.

“Hillary Clinton’s senior staff at the State Department routinely worked with the Clinton Foundation to reward big donors with special access and favors for four years”, Citizens United president David Bossie said in a statement. “It’s an extraordinary proportion indicating her possible ethics challenges if elected president”.

The meetings between Clinton, now the Democratic presidential nominee, and foundation donors don’t appear to violate legal agreements both Clintons signed before she joined the State Department in 2009.

But according to a tally this week by the Associated Press, at least 85 of 154 people “from private interests” who met or had phone conversations scheduled with Clinton while she led the State Department had donated to the foundation or pledged commitments to its worldwide programs. Combined, the 85 donors contributed as much as $156m. The 154 did not include USA federal employees or foreign government representatives.

While the balance sheets and the activities of the limited liability company – known as WJC, the initials of William Jefferson Clinton – remain unknown, it’s the type of legal financial entity that drug cartels and other worldwide criminal enterprises use to launder money to avoid law enforcement detection, argues Jerome Corsi in his new book “Partners in Crime: The Clintons’ Scheme to Monetize the White House for Personal Profit”.

Before her interview, Clinton had largely ignored Trump’s criticism of the foundation, with campaign officials figuring her late-summer advantage gives her few incentives to personally push back against the email criticism or allegations of pay-for-play.

Being able to say to business partners, creditors, local politicians, etc., “When I met with Secretary of State Clinton last week.” is a gift.

The Clinton team says there’s no proof of that.

Clinton is not expected to discuss the issue during a Thursday speech in Reno, Nevada, which will be focused on attaching Trump to the so-called “alt right” movement within the Republican Party that has strayed from mainstream conservatism.

The campaign argues that Clinton never took action as secretary of state because of donations to the charity. AP first requested Mrs. Clinton’s calendars and schedules in 2010 and again in 2013 but was unsuccessful.

But at the end of the day, it found no wrongdoing on the part of Hillary Clinton or her family’s charitable organization – even if that wasn’t in the headline.

But as The AP notes, the moves can not negate the fact that some 6,000 donors already have given north of $2 billion to the charity.

That’s not enough. The potential for ethical conflicts remains too great.

Donna Shalala is head of the Clinton Foundation.

“It drew the conclusion and made the suggestion that my meetings with people like the late, great Elie Wiesel, or Melinda Gates, or the Nobel Prize victor Muhammad Yunus were somehow due to connections with the foundation instead of their status as highly respected global leaders”.

There are people who still defend Clinton, despite the fact her corruption is well exposed.

Grameen America, the bank’s nonprofit US flagship, which Yunus chairs, has given between $100,000 and $250,000 to the foundation – a figure that bank spokeswoman Becky Asch said reflects the institution’s annual fees to attend CGI meetings. And Bahrain Petroleum also gave an additional $25,000 to $50,000.
