Clinton chooses Kaine as VP
Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., campaigned last week in Northern Virginia with Hillary Clinton before she chose him as her vice presidential running mate.

If you want FiveThirtyEight’s trademark measured take, the Kaine pick probably won’t have any real impact on the outcome of the election. She has repeatedly said the question of who would make a good president if required to step in was at the forefront of her search.
John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman, will call some of the vice presidential options who did not make it into the top tier.
From the start, Kaine was a front-runner to join Clinton on the Democratic ticket. Kaine was attending a fundraiser in Newport, Rhode Island, for the state’s Democratic senator, Jack Reed.
Ending days of speculation, Clinton finally settled for the battleground-state politician with working-class roots and a fluency in Spanish, traits that she believes can bolster her chances to defeat Trump in November. He’s a leader, Clinton said “who cares more about making a difference than making headlines”.
Hillary Clinton appeared on Saturday with her running mate, Sen.
Clinton and Kaine are closely aligned on many issues.
“I love that about him”, she told Charlie Rose of CBS News and PBS. He has never lost an election. “I’m excited for us to get to know one another”.
“Senator Tim Kaine is an honorable public servant”.
Last week, Clinton and Kaine spent 90 minutes together, followed by another meeting on July 16 that brought together the two families, including Hillary’s husband and former President Bill Clinton, daughter Chelsea Clinton and son-in-law Marc Mezvinsky, as well as Kaine’s wife, Anna Holton, CNN quoted the campaign official as saying. Obama described it as a coin toss between then-senators Joe Biden and Evan Bayh but added “Kaine is still a distinct possibility”, according to campaign manager David Plouffe’s book The Audacity to Win.
Along with the email scandal dogging Clinton, the perception that she’s beholden to Wall Street and Clinton Foundation donors will still be nipping at her heels. Do you want a trash-talking president or a bridge-building president?.
Clinton and Kaine are being greeted by cheers from a boisterous Miami crowd in the crucial battleground state of Florida.
Replied Kaine: “Just got off the phone with Hillary”.
Trump’s choice of running mate, a conservative evangelical Christian and former congressman, could serve to reassure voters alarmed by his rhetoric.
Even though he supports women’s right to choose, Mr. Kaine says he is against abortion personally – a sore point for pro-choice activists in the U.S.
Clinton first broke the news to her closest supporters.
“There’s no doubt Virginia is a key state”. He is a moderate, who has the potential to attract voters repelled by Donald Trump and those who may have a hard time fully embracing Clinton.
The emails detail the acrimonious split between the Democratic National Committee and Clinton’s former primary rival, Sen.
The Clinton campaign watched the closing day of the Republican convention with great interest, particularly Trump’s acceptance speech, in part to gauge the best timing of her announcement. Democrats hoped the announcement would blunt any momentum Trump gained from his convention. Before that he served as the mayor of Richmond and the governor of Virginia.
Bernie Sanders supporters probably dislike the pick, but “they know she couldn’t pick someone like Elizabeth Warren”, Herzik said, referring to the US senator from MA who had been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate.

The Trump campaign attacked the choice, dubbing the senator “Corrupt Kaine”. He also cut into Donald Trump’s business record.
