Trump made the remarks Friday night in Pensacola, Fla., in a speech that was heavy on criticism of Hillary Clinton, including labeling the Democratic nominee “an unstable person”.

In her interview, Clinton defended Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, which was widely panned by Israeli leaders, but said reports of friction between the president and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were overstated, even though they have been well documented over the years.

Alisyn Camerota asked Lewandowski, who pointed out he was still receiving severance pay from the Trump campaign, why his former boss continued to praise the Russian president.

“I’ve already said he is very much of a leader”, Trump said. “Far more than our president has been a leader”. Rep. Franks said Trump has improved his use of it “1000 percent”.

Trump’s interview surfaced as he and Clinton continue to clash over foreign policy in the runuup to the November 8 presidential election.

Clinton then transitioned to a more positive message, calling for empathy for the “other half” of Trump’s supporters who feel left behind by the government and the economy.

On Tuesday, 88 retired generals and admirals endorsed Trump. The current average of polls by website RealClearPolitics puts her at 45.6% support, compared to Trump’s 42.8%.
