Clinton Hosts Warren Following Endorsement, Fueling VP Speculation

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton met on Friday with U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a leading progressive voice, to try to build party unity for her election campaign against Republican Donald Trump.

Obama’s announcement came moments after he metClinton’s rival Bernie Sanders at the White House.

Still, it’s by no means certain that all of Sanders supporters will now flock to Clinton.

“Look, I know how hard this job can be”.

“I don’t think there has ever been someone so qualified to hold this office”, he added, in pointed contrast to a claim made by Sanders in April.

“So, for those voters who are focused on the economy, we have got a pretty strong case to make about the wisdom of the decisions made by President Obama and the commitment by Secretary Clinton to those principles”, Earnest said. Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s lawyer and chief of staff during her tenure as secretary of state, was also seen leaving the event.

The same day President Obama announced his endorsement for Hillary Clinton, Sen. I’ve seen her toughness.

“She’s got the courage, the compassion and the heart to get the job done”, Obama said in a video released by Clinton’s campaign. The president plans to campaign next week with Clinton in Green Bay, Wisconsin, marking his first major foray into the 2016 campaign.

Clinton may decide that it makes more sense to tack a little more to the center now that the primaries are over or that she should choose someone who could help deliver a battleground, such as Virginia Sen.

Ed Rendell, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and governor of Pennsylvania, predicted earlier this week that Clinton would not choose Warren as her vice presidential nominee because the senator is not ready.

The 44th president’s support gives Clinton a potent surrogate on the campaign trail.

She said: “It is absolutely a joy and an honour that President Obama and I, over the years, have gone from fierce competitors to true friends”. He has my back in this election. I am fired up.

Several prominent Democrats, who had declined to endorse in the race, including former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who dropped his bid for the nomination earlier this year, threw their support to Clinton.

Mr Obama praised Mr Sanders for an “incredible campaign” and for drawing young people into the political process.

Sanders and Obama appeared in good spirits as they walked together to the Oval Office, smiling and talking.

Clinton, 68, now has a three-point edge over Trump, 69, (42-39 per cent) in a hypothetical matchup, Fox News said.

I had heard of Hillary forever, or 30 years, anyway: Hillary doing legal aid, Hillary fighting for children’s rights here and organizing for children’s rights internationally – all long before her husband became a household name. Democrats in Washington are eager to unite their party against Donald Trump and avoid a lingering intraparty spat.
