Clinton: I May Have “Short-Circuited” When I Said Testimony Was Truthful

CLINTON (from interview on July 21, 2016 edition of Fox’s Fox News Sunday): Director Comey said that my answers were truthful; and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people.

LISA DESJARDINS: OK, now her words today.

“I may have short-circuited [her answers] and for that I will try to clarify”, Clinton said. “That’s really the bottom line here”.

Hillary Clinton, despite the case against her having been closed, still finds herself in a twist when addressing questions about her emails. That contradicted Clinton’s statements that she, as secretary of state, did not send or receive classified email on her private server.

She argued that a broad victory, one that included Democrats winning control of the Senate and tightening their margin in the House, would put pressure on Republicans to come along.

“So I may have short-circuited”, she added in her response to a question from reporters during the joint press event, her closest to an official press conference in eight months.

Clinton was confronted Friday for making statements publicly that — according to Comey — were inaccurate, including her claim on the campaign trail that she never sent or received classified information on her private server. Director Comey said that only 3 out of 30,000 had anything resembling classified markers, what does that mean? The National Journal’s Ron Fournier, who said he will vote for Hillary, is begging Democratic leaders to get Hillary to stop lying.

A Latina reporter noted that President Barack Obama is sometimes criticized as the “deporter in chief” and asked Clinton how her record would differ. She clarified recent remarks about the FBI investigation into her private email server. About half were deleted.

“I do recognize I have work to do”, she said.

In July, Comey said FBI investigators found that 113 emails from Clinton’s server contained classified information that had been secret at the time it was sent or received. That is different than Clinton’s original assertion.

Let’s unpack that. Out of 110 emails that Comey testified contained classified information (which constituted only 0.2% of Hillary’s 55,000 emails), only three had any markings indicating the presence of classified material.

LISA DESJARDINS: So, back to those e-mails.

CARTWRIGHT: Was there a header on the three documents that we’ve discussed today that had the little c in the text someplace?

“It was therefore reasonable to conclude that anyone, including myself, would have not suspected that they were classified”, Clinton said told the journalists.

LISA DESJARDINS: Did Comey say that?

“It’s not hard to see why she hasn’t held a press conference in 244 days”, said the Republican National Committee chairman, Reince Priebus.

LISA DESJARDINS: That leaves two questions.

Clinton said she had meant to point to Comey’s statement that FBI investigators found her to be forthcoming and cooperative during their sit-down with her. Comey, however, said Clinton’s past statements about never sending or receiving classified material were not accurate because investigators found several emails that did contain classified information, though it was not labeled properly, meaning Clinton may have not realized she had received it.
