Clinton joins Democrats against Pacific trade deal
But later that same day, after Clinton announced her opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, he said “the jury is now out” on whether he was correct in his earlier statement. “It was part of a strategy. We’re going into this with one arm tied behind our backs”. That report was published Wednesday, just hours before Clinton revealed her new position on TPP.

July 2014, in her memoir Hard Choices: “Because TPP negotiations are still ongoing, it makes sense to reserve judgment until we can evaluate the final proposed agreement. Therefore, I oppose it”, Clinton explained last month about the controversial pipeline that would stretch from Canada through Nebraska to the Gulf Coast.
Both Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley had been vocal opponents on the two issues for months. The flip-flop isn’t quite as damaging as it might have been, because Clinton is claiming that she was acting as a team player in the Obama administration when she was promoting the agreement.
Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO labor group, which opposes the pact, praised Clinton.
Clinton would have limited authority to unravel the deal if Obama manages to get it in place and she succeeds him in the White House. Fernando, a Democratic mega-donor and founder and CEO of stock firm Chopper Trading, raised a total of $450,000 to pump into Clinton’s presidential campaign from the event. Clinton said her budget proposals would include increased funding for the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
It also has implications for the general election, allowing Clinton to campaign on a more populist theme against a Republican nominee who is nearly certain to support the treaty.
Earnest brushed aside the notion that Clinton betrayed Obama by coming out against the trade deal, which is an important part of the president’s legacy. It’s a decision driven largely by the politics of getting the Democratic nomination, where union support is critical, rather than by policy.
I still believe that’s the high bar we have to meet.
While Clinton looks moderate compared to a few of her colleagues, she is distancing herself from Republican rivals.
Chamberlain said he also sees Sanders’ influence in Clinton’s plan to punish gun manufacturers when their firearms are used to commit crimes. The deal limits veiled forms of protectionism, such as special treatment of state-owned firms and arbitrary import bans after safety scares. And so yes, I do think concealed carry is something that is a deterrent….
However, despite public condemnation and promises of tackling the sector, Clinton recently took hundreds of thousands at a fundraiser hosted by a trader who works in the industry.

Flournoy, who served as third-ranking civilian at the Pentagon from 2009 to 2012, said in her remarks at the think tank forum on Wednesday that “nothing that we can do in our military posture would compensate for not getting that [trade] agreement put in place as the reality of the USA commitment to the prosperity and growth of the region: That we’re there, that we’re staying there, that we’re invested”. “Lord knows I have made my share of mistakes”.
