Clinton, Kaine Ticket Debuts in Miami Ahead of DNC

“So while Tim was taking on housing discrimination and homelessness, Donald Trump was denying apartments to people who were African-Americans”, Clinton said at the introductory conference.

The Clinton aide said she ultimately concluded that Kaine met her top consideration – the ability to step in as president if necessary – and she had reached a comfort level with the low-key lawmaker that made her believe he could be a “true partner in governing”. The GOP hopeful has “left a trail of broken promises and lies” throughout his business career, Kaine said.

Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO labor federation, said Kaine’s decision to join Clinton in opposing the trade pact “sets an irretrievable, progressive path forward for America”. A hard-fought primary had resulted in a “Never Hillary” camp among the more devoted supporters of Bernie Sanders. “We can’t afford to let him do the same thing to our country, and folks, we don’t have to, because Hillary Clinton is the direct opposite of Donald Trump”. The troops “deserve a commander in chief with the experience and temperament to lead”, he said.

Kaine – a Virginia senator and former governor – got the nod from Clinton in a telephone call Friday evening – days before the party convention begins in Philadelphia.

The presumptive Democratic candidate for the White House, Hillary Clinton, said Saturday that her vice-presidential pick for the November elections, Tim Kaine, “is everything Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not”, adding that her Republican opponent is “dangerously wrong” and “doesn’t understand America”.

“He’s a progressive who likes to get things done”. “But like Hillary, he is also a progressive fighter”.

Kaine took the podium after Clinton, welcoming everyone at the rally in Spanish.

A Harvard law graduate and married father of three adult children, Kaine used to work as a civil rights attorney. The governor’s mansion followed, where he described fighting for education and open space despite being in a deep recession.

Kaine later talked about the influence his parents have had on him, “They taught me early some lessons that have guided my whole life – the importance of hard work, faith, and kindness, of following your dreams”. Bernie Sanders offered an amendment to get rid of superdelegates – party insiders who can vote for the candidate of their choice at the convention.

“Do you want a “you’re fired” president or a “you’re hired” president?”

Kaine would be the first to say it, calling himself “boring” during a recent interview.

The rally stood in stark contrast to Trump’s introduction of Pence, which was held at a Manhattan hotel last weekend.

“I want someone who can become president immediately”, Clinton said recently on CNN.

Jealous favors Bernie Sanders – and is at the convention pushing to eliminate superdelegates – but says Clinton’s “pick has is made” and that he’ll support the ticket.

The former NY senator Kaine’s his tenure as a legislator fighting for causes such as public education funding, more gun control, and LGBT rights.

“While Mike Pence slashed education funding in IN, and gave more tax cuts to the wealthiest, Tim Kaine cut his own salary and invested in education from pre-K through college and beyond”.

He also had a particularly powerful backer: President Obama, who advised Clinton’s campaign during the selection process that Kaine would be a strong choice. Long viewed as a likely choice, Kaine is a fluent Spanish speaker with a reputation for working with Republicans. He was on the short list to be Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008.
