Clinton leads Trump by 6 points in nationwide poll
Both presidential candidates had new poll numbers Tuesday that they could point to as momentum-changers.

Voters feel Republican nominee Donald Trump is more honest and straightforward than Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, according to a Wall Street Journal poll published Thursday. Among all registered voters, a slightly broader group than those designated as likely voters, Clinton leads by 5 percentage points, narrower than her 9-point lead in the August Journal/NBC News survey. On the other hand, Trump is seen as more honest and straightforward by 10 points, 41 percent to 31 percent. The candidates and numerous outside groups supporting them are due to report the details of their summertime fundraising and expenses to federal regulators on Tuesday. Clinton had been leading in the Tar Heel State by less than one percentage point. Clinton may also look for a chance to hit Trump on his history with the “birther” movement, his temperament, his incessant tweeting and his refusal to release those tax returns. Clinton had held a slight lead in Nevada.
Given the sharp polarization of voters during the general elections, the first presidential debate is expected to attract a record 100 million viewers, The Hill newspaper said.
According to a Trump campaign statement, Trump thanked President el-Sisi and the Egyptian people for what they have done in defense of their country and for the betterment of the world over the last few years. There was little more enthusiasm among Trump supporters; just 28% would be excited if the GOP nominee triumphs in November.
Sixty-four percent of likely voters say they are very interested in the campaign, and 90 percent say they care a good deal about who wins the presidency, the poll found.
