Clinton leads Trump by over two million in popular vote
USA 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has garnered 64,223,958 tallied votes by Wednesday morning, over two million more votes than President-elect Donald Trump, according to data released by the non-partisan Cook Political Report. And by Wasserman’s count, Trump beat Clinton in 13 key swing states by a 48.5%-to-46.6% margin. This year, both Trump and Clinton would have been eliminated in their first round of voting.

Sec. Clinton, by winning more votes than Donald Trump – between 1 and 1.5 million more, Politifact says 800,000 more – would in any other country in the world be the president-elect.
Democrats are working with a group that’s lobbying electors from states Trump won to get them to vote against him. A candidate needs 270 Electoral College votes to win the presidency.
Votes are still outstanding in Democratic strongholds California and Washington.
Like it or not, the electors have the authority under Article 2 of the Constitution to reject a candidate for president if they think the person is unqualified.
Even Trump himself has criticized the Electoral College.
The Guardian reported that she has raised over $2 million for the effort. It is not expected to win support from her small state colleagues.
Two presidential elections out of the past five have had mixed results, causing some to question the entire Electoral College process.
States elect their leaders by direct vote.
A petition calling on the electors to pick Clinton when they vote in December has received over 4.5 million signatures. Until the 12th Amendment, electors could vote for any two candidates, which led in 1796 to the election of a president (John Adams) and a vice president (Thomas Jefferson) from different parties.
“These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified”, she added in a statement.
