Clinton ‘Likely’ to Announce Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as VP Pick

The former secretary of State will appear with that person in the next 24 hours in the key battleground state of Florida, either at a rally here Friday afternoon or at a morning event in Miami on Saturday.

Yet, with polls showing Sanders voters moving toward her and Republican Donald Trump’s pick of Indiana Governor Mike Pence, a strong conservative, as his running mate, strategists say Clinton has more freedom to pick a conventional swing state candidate like Kaine.

Trump’s forceful promises to be the champion of disaffected Americans closed out his convention on a high note for the party, not a moment too soon after shows of disharmony and assorted flubs before Thursday night’s closer.

“I’m glad the waiting game is almost over”, Kaine said Thursday, giving away no hints about whether he is Clinton’s choice for the spot on her ticket. A vice presidential announcement would put the focus on Clinton.

Kaine is seen as the leading contender, and he was doing little to hide the fact he was in talks. A former governor of Iowa, Vilsack has been President Barack Obama’s agriculture secretary since 2009.

Clinton’s campaign has been mum about the closing phase of the selection process and coy about when and where she will announce a decision.

CORY BOOKER: With Hillary Clinton, we will rise!

Liberals say they are concerned about Mr. Kaine’s positions on global trade deals and Wall Street regulation.

The former secretary of state slowly whittled down her list to four top contenders: Kaine; Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack; Labor Secretary Tom Perez; and New Jersey Sen. Clinton has insisted that no running mate will outshine her.

By adding Kaine to the ticket, Clinton will be seen as looking to offer the American people a more stable alternative to the highly volatile, outspoken campaign led by the Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has found himself in hot water regarding women’s issues, immigrants, America’s relationship with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, as well as being accused of anti-Semitism.

Clinton does extremely well with African-American voters, based on recent and exit primary polls.

Neither Vilsack nor Kaine have been informed of Clinton’s decision, people familiar with the process said.

Clinton has also vetted Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, meeting with both men at her home in Washington last week.

Clinton is expected to name her running mate before Democrats meet in Philadelphia for their nominating convention, which begins Monday.

The Wall Street Journal said Brache also held a string of high-level offices in the Trujillo regime, including being ambassador to the U.S. Brache reportedly “expressed great optimism” for the regime as late as 1935 when political assassinations had been well documented.

“Let’s be really clear: It should be disqualifying for any potential Democratic vice presidential candidate to be part of a lobbyist-driven effort to help banks dodge consumer protection standards and regulations created to prevent banks from destroying our economy”, Democracy for America executive director Charles Chamberlain said in a statement Thursday.
