Clinton maintains she didn’t send info marked classified on email

“Not to my knowledge, I don’t think there’s been a referral from Congress”, Comey said when asked by Chaffetz whether FBI investigators investigated statements she made to Congress about whether any of the emails she sent or received were marked classified.

“Individuals who intentionally skirt the law must be held accountable”, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, where Comey will testify Thursday, said in a statement.

James Comey chose not to prosecute Hillary Clinton regarding her email server scandal, but recent comments from the FBI director may suggest that the bureau is actually investigating the Clinton Foundation.

An investigation into the use of a personal email system for official communications by Hillary Clinton, while she was U.S. secretary of state, has been closed with no charges filed, U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch said Wednesday.

Walker pointed out that numerous congresswomen who have praised Comey as a public servant after his decision not to charge Hillary Clinton were the same people who attacked the FBI for running an investigation on “frivolous” issues earlier. While Comey said he couldn’t confirm if a foreign government had accessed classified materials store there, he reiterated that “sophisticated” hacking attempts occurred.

He called Clinton’s use of her personal email a awful mistake, but noted that there was no damage to the country because of it.

Comey added that because those emails were not marked at the headers, it might have been reasonable for Clinton not to know that those parts were classified. Citing Clinton’s testimony to his committee, he asked Comey a series of questions.

“I do not think they were careless”, she said.

Comey again refused to say.

Comey: No, we found work-related emails -thousands – that were not returned.

Comey quickly responded, “I’m not going to answer that”.

Comey said, however, that after examining the findings, he believed Clinton had not meant to violate laws and that “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case”.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Mr Comey’s recommendation proves Mrs Clinton is “living above the law” and questioned whether she should be briefed on classified information as a presidential candidate.

Mr Comey said the “c” markings were in the body of the emails and not at the top where they would have been more visible.
