Clinton Makes a Personal Pitch to New Hampshire Voters

“She’s not just this really smart, tough, accomplished person”, said Kathy Sullivan, a longtime Clinton supporter.

“The fact is I do have a somewhat narrower path that I try to walk and I do think sometimes it comes across as a little more restrained, a little more careful, and I am sure that is true”, Clinton said during a town hall in Henniker, New Hampshire. Bill Clinton, of all people, joined the fray on Sunday, accusing the Bernie Bros of “vicious trolling and attacks that are literally too profane-not to mention sexist-to repeat”.

Now, as anyone with an internet connection knows, it’s impossible for a woman to express any opinion online without getting shit on by trolls. Beale announces one day that he is going to start telling people the truth because, “I just ran out of b—“. Elizabeth Warren hasn’t endorsed her campaign. “You may not support me now, but I will always support you”. Sanders himself immediately apologized for the incident, but Bill Clinton did not forget about it.

But if there’s a calculation behind the anger, it might be this: Hillary Clinton needs to do a better job of attracting female voters.

Hillary Clinton and Sanders have sparred over the former secretary of state’s relations to Wall Street and her authenticity as a “progressive candidate”. In March 2015, Gallup reached a similar finding that women, including those under 50, were much more likely to have a favorable opinion of Clinton. Sanders, for his part, defended Hillary Clinton’s honor claiming his campaign is not behind the attacks, condemning anything remotely associated with the Clintons’ accusations. After Clinton won the New Hampshire primary in a surprise over then-Sen.

“I am committed to doing everything I can as your president to make sure our country rises but also to remove the barriers that stand in the way of any person rising”, she thundered, promising to fight Wall Street.

Sanders’ communications director Michael Briggs said he was disappointed by President Clinton’s remarks.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s joke, as supporter of Clinton, that “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other”, appears to have backfired.

As the campaign announced Hillary Clinton would campaign in MI over the weekend, a sign she was already looking past New Hampshire, Clinton’s pollster, Joel Benenson, declared Friday: “Our goal here is to get close”.

The former president also derided Sanders’ talk of political revolution on the campaign trail. “Look we don’t want that crap”, he said. “I just want you to think”.

“You can’t offer a healthcare program [if] you don’t know what it costs”, Bill Clinton said. He, famously, promised to “be there for you till the last dog dies” and allies say he kept the promise. Clinton has come under scrutiny for Sanders for the same thing.

“I have no idea what they’re talking about or who they are talking to”, she told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in an interview set to air later Tuesday.
