Clinton needs good bounce from convention

Donald Trump said while his daughter Ivanka is friends with rival Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, he wishes the pair did not like each other ‘because it would be a lot easier’.

The trip through Pennsylvania and OH, which started Friday, looks to take advantage of a problem within the Republican Party: That around 20% of Republicans have an unfavorable view of their newly-minted nominee.

Trump is also focusing on OH and Pennsylvania, as states where he might make headway with blue-collar white men.

Tim Kaine that will take them across the battleground state of Pennsylvania and next into OH, hitting themes like manufacturing, infrastructure and small business support. But Democrats are bullish that Trump could do just that, especially if longtime Democratic voters overlook Trump’s braggadocios demeanor and vote for him in November.

The next pivotal campaign moment is likely September 26, when Clinton and Trump are scheduled to debate in Hempstead, N.Y. Two more debates are to follow, in St. Louis on Oct. 9 and Las Vegas Oct. 19.

“I am not satisfied with the status quo”.

“I don’t know about you, but I stayed up really late last night”, Clinton told an adorning crowd at Temple University in Philadelphia on Friday.

And yet Clinton is widely perceived as a flawed candidate, accused of the hardness so often associated with women who speak their mind and refuse to give up. A biographical film of Clinton, narrated by Morgan Freeman, had shown a picture of her mother as a child – she was a tiny thing – and you could imagine this young child, all alone and frightened, having to walk out at night and get food.

She accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president Thursday night with a message stressing the need to unite in order to confront the nation’s challenges. Fox drew an average of 4.48 million viewers over its two weeks of coverage, while CNN finished a close second with an average of 4.28 million viewers.

Trump on Friday also bragged about TV ratings that indicated that more people watched his acceptance speech than Clinton’s speech.

In Colorado, Trump goaded Clinton on her failure to hold a news conference since December and accused her of lying to the FBI over its investigation of her email scandal as secretary of state.

“And that’s why I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman-not me, not Bill, nobody-more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America”.

And the candidate wants to push that message with the interview. Phillips said that almost every protester he spoke to announced they were leaving the Democrat party.

The line was not a one-off olive branch to Republicans, either. The effort to portray Trump as unfit for the presidency carried over, too.

Trump said in a press conference this week: “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing”.

On Thursday, Michael Bloomberg, the former Republican mayor of NY, spoke to the Democratic audience and received a positive reaction.

The stakes are high: A loss to Trump could not only end Clinton’s political career, it could be a devastating coda to her and her husband’s political legacy and leave the Democratic Party weaker than it has been in a generation.

The statement says Clinton’s remarks were “delivered from a fantasy universe, not the reality we live in today”.

“I will be a president for Democrats, Republicans, and independents”, she added.

Throughout the convention, Clinton and other speakers offered a direct rebuttal to her Republican rival’s insistence on American decline by emphasizing the positive force Americans can be at home and overseas.

We haven’t seen any new polls released since the Democratic convention just Thursday, and most quality polls won’t be released for a few days.
