Clinton on brink of primary history, but Trump awaits

“When the mainstream media calls the polls, calls the election, because they’re already planning to do it to suppress the vote in California, we will fight on”, Nina Turner, a former OH state senator and one of Sanders’ top surrogates, said at a Monday night campaign rally.

While those watching the results in Puerto Rico focused on their impact on the race for the Democratic nomination, the focus of many voters on the island was its ongoing economic crisis.

LOS ANGELES Hillary Clinton stands poised to claim the Democratic mantle with Tuesday’s primaries, including California, overwhelming her rival Bernie Sanders and setting up a historic USA presidential election showdown with Republican Donald Trump.

“But we still have work to do, don’t we?”

“And we will come together and be prepared to go to the convention in a unified way, to make our case, to leave the convention, to go into the general election to defeat Donald Trump”, Clinton said. His many rallies – largely in low-income neighborhoods – have attracted thousands, while Clinton’s expensive fundraisers have been disrupted by protesters, especially in Hispanic areas.

Clinton’s strategy did not change after the event.

“We’ll wait and find out”, the former secretary of state said.

When including superdelegates, the party insiders who can vote for the candidate of their choice at the party’s summer convention, her lead over Sanders is substantial: 2,357 to 1,566.

Instead, Clinton reacted at Long Beach Community College.

“This is an important milestone, but there are six states that are voting on Tuesday, with millions of people heading to the polls, and Hillary Clinton is working to earn every vote”, her campaign manager Robby Mook said in a statement.

Math says Hillary Clinton will clinch the Democratic nomination for president about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Even Clinton surrogates walked the line on Monday, pushing voters to get out and vote, while nodding that the race had been called.

“I think we’ll probably have a pretty good sense next week of who the nominee will end up being”, Obama said last Wednesday after delivering a campaign-style speech in Indiana. My supporters are passionate.

She added, “It’s really emotional”.

At his own concert and rally in San Francisco, Sanders did not address that Clinton was being named the presumptive nominee. And he did not back off Clinton, calling her out on several occasions for their numerous policy differences, including fracking.

“If there’s a large voter turnout, we will win”.

Clinton is closing in on a historic nomination as the first female presidential nominee with one more round of states – California, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota and Montana – set to vote on Tuesday.

In a news conference Monday, Sanders said he “hoped to win” in California, though he added, “Let’s assess where we are after tomorrow before we make statements based on speculation”, The New York Times reports.

“Secretary Clinton does not have and will not have the requisite number of pledged delegates to secure the nomination”, Briggs said.
