Clinton outlines vision in speech of her life
Part of this impression can be attributed to the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server while secretary of state.

He said on Wednesday there had never been a man or woman more qualified than Clinton to serve as president.
It’s not just the email controversy.
The risk to American prosperity included inequality, limited social mobility, political gridlock, “threats at home and abroad” and frustration over wage stagnation, she said.
“Hillary is seen as a cold fish who is calculating and not of the highest integrity”, says political consultant Gary Nordlinger. “She has to show she is warm, compassionate and trustworthy”.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton takes the stage during the final day of the Democratic National Convention, Thursday, July 28, 2016, in Philadelphia.
Clinton was introduced by her daughter, Chelsea, who spoke warmly of her mother as a woman “driven by compassion, by faith, by kindness, a fierce sense of justice, and a heart full of love”.
“Democrats have been speaking about a world that doesn’t exist”, Trump said. “Imagine, if you dare, imagine him in the Oval Office facing a crisis”.
“We will help more people learn a skill or practice a trade and make a good living doing it. We will give small businesses like my dad’s a boost, make it easier to get credit”.
“America needs every one of us to lend our energy, our talents, our ambition to making our nation better and stronger”, said Clinton before accepting the nomination.
“She is incredibly smart”.
“America is far less safe – and the world is far less stable – than when Obama made the decision to put Hillary Clinton in charge of America’s foreign policy”.
Georgetown University professor Stephen Wayne says in the tumultuous fight against Republican nominee Donald Trump, being the even-keeled, experienced candidate may not be such a negative as the race closes in on the November 8 election. “I think we oughta get the record straight!” “You sort of can’t do both at the same time”.
Clinton also went after Trump for what she sees as a message of division and fear.
Rushdie summed up Trump’s campaign strategy this way: “First you say the appalling thing”.
And the Republican nominee is certain to continue his sharp attacks on Clinton – whether calling her crooked or corrupt. A Pew poll this month showed 50 percent of Clinton’s supporters said their vote was mostly against Trump, while 55 percent of Trump supporters said their vote was mostly against Clinton.
Clinton plans to draw a contrast with Trump, who used his nomination speech last week to describe a country in disrepair.
“She seems a bit distant, disconnected”.
“It’s obvious this was the best speech she’s ever given”. “None of us can do it alone”.
“Who is stronger together?”
“To Trump’s divisiveness, she offered unity; to his flippancy, she offered experience and thought; to his volatile temperament, she is the calm, rational, and decisive policymaker”. There were powerful moments earlier in the evening – including an impactful address by the father of a Muslim US soldier who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country in Iraq, and an address from a valorous Medal of Honor recipient, who was shamefully heckled by some DNC delegates.
“So numerous people who should be their (Democrats’) core constituencies, young people, African-Americans, Latinos don’t vote in as large number as Republicans”, Kazin notes.
