Clinton picks Tim Kaine as running mate for White House race
Tim Kaine will be her running mate, her decision didn’t matter to Tennessee GOP delegates. He gave his remarks in another language: Spanish.

Together they portray themselves as bridge-builders who champion government as a powerful and positive tool for American achievement in a fast-moving world.
Starting on Saturday, Kaine will be thrust into an election defined in part by a debate over immigration.
Kaine, who is fluent in Spanish, took a year off from Harvard to work as a Catholic missionary and teacher in Honduras.
FILE – Queen Elizabeth II and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine enter the Old House Chamber at the Virginia State Capitol building in Richmond, Va., Thursday, May 3, 2007.
Since joining the Senate in 2013, he has drawn criticism for siding with President Barack Obama – against most fellow Democrats – in backing “fast track” legislation that could be used to expedite completion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an agreement signed by the us and other Pacific Rim countries.
But Kaine has kept a low profile.
Liberal opposition to Kaine began to emerge with media reports that he was on Clinton’s shortlist for the vice presidential nomination.
Those are his words: “I am boring”, Kaine told NBC’s “Meet the Press” about a month before the veep announcement was made.
Clinton herself turned against the Trans-Pacific deal amid opposition from Sanders and pressure from labor unions who say trade pacts have cut USA manufacturing jobs.
Reportedly, Clinton’s finalists were a roster of centrists: Kaine, Secy. of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and New Jersey Sen.
“Trying to count the ways I hate @timkaine”. “Congrats to a good man and a good friend”.
CLEVELAND – As Republicans continue to work through the process of uniting around their presidential nominee Donald Trump, Tennessee’s delegates at the Republican National Convention have already united around their disdain for presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. While the attacks will ramp up as the general election officially gets under way, it was a fairly tame response for an announcement that has been seen in recent weeks as all but inevitable.
“I kainen’t even”, tweeted Logan Dobson.
Trump, in a text to his own supporters, said Obama, Hillary and Kaine were “the ultimate insiders” and implored voters to not “let Obama have a 3rd term”.
According to a Gallup poll released earlier this month, Trump and Clinton are now among the worst-rated presidential candidates of the last 70 years.
“He’s a terrific listener”, said Mark Rubin, who was a senior adviser to Kaine as governor.
Although the progressive wing of the Democratic Party expressed misgivings about Kaine’s support for free trade and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, as well as his ties while in the Senate to financial and business interests, Clinton is on record as opposing the 12-nation trade pact she once endorsed, and supports tough regulation of the financial sector. During his political career, he’s demonstrated an ability to woo voters across party lines, winning his 2006 gubernatorial race with support in both Democratic strongholds and traditionally Republican strongholds. Kaine was born in Minnesota but grew up in Kansas City. In 2015, Kaine again joined Warner and a group of East Coast senators pushing an offshore drilling plan. He’s also a devout Catholic who is personally opposed to the death penalty and abortion, but he has a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood.
Kaine wrote in a Twitter message that he is honored to have been chosen and that he “can’t wait to hit the [ campaign ] trail” Saturday in Miami.

By and large, Kaine’s governing style has been perceived as amenable to compromise in an era of partisan gridlock. “And he also is a former Democratic (National Committee) chairman, so he has very extensive contacts across the country and within the party”. Trump’s campaign promptly nicknamed him “Corrupt Kaine”, accusing him of accepting gifts as governor.
