Clinton regrets calling ‘half’ of Trump supporters ‘deplorable’

During a Friday night fundraiser in NY, the Democratic presidential nominee said that “half” of Trump’s supporters can be placed in a “basket of deplorables“, meaning that they are racist, homophobic or xenophobic.

As for Clinton, she appeared to be serious and experienced, and her statements of regret about her support for the Iraq War were an important appeal to her base, which has concerns about how muscular a Clinton administration would be in terms of foreign interventions, Mahaffee said.

But ‘Trump has built his campaign largely on prejudice and paranoia, ‘ she said, adding: ‘I won’t stop calling out bigotry and racist rhetoric in this campaign’.

Trump has routinely said that Clinton should “go to jail” for her use of a private email server, despite the FBI’s conclusion that pressing charges against the former secretary of state would be inconsistent with ordinary prosecutorial standards.

“First I would tell you it’s great to be at the Values Voter Summit”, Pence said when asked about Clinton’s comments in the Breitbart News Saturday interview.

Mr Trump responded to Mrs Clinton’s suggestion that half his supporters were worthy of condemnation by saying the comment insulted “millions of awesome, hard working people”.

“I certainly don’t think she helped herself”.

Clinton made her remarks about Trump’s supporters at a lavish event that featured performances from Barbra Streisand and Rufus Wainwright.

Pence said that he was “simply taken aback” by Hillary Clinton’s decision to castigate millions of Americans, and was “speechless” about it. There are what I call the deplorables-the racists, you know, the haters, and the people who are drawn because they think somehow he’s going to restore an America that no longer exists.

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill did not back away from the comment, reviving Clinton’s charge that Trump’s campaign has become a vessel for the alternative right, members of which frequently resort to ad hominem attacks based on race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Earlier, she said many of those backing her rival were racist, sexist, xenophobic and Islamophobic.

“Last night I was “grossly generalistic, ‘ and that’s never a good idea”.

Clinton, who has said she is the candidate who can unify a divided country, made the comment at an LGBT fundraiser Friday night at a New York City restaurant, with about 1,000 people in attendance.

But Clinton had no trouble directly calling out some of Trump’s supporters on Friday.

Trump’s campaign pounced on Clinton’s candid views. My message to her is: Hillary, I got news for you.

For her part, Democratic candidate Clinton displayed great expertise on a wide range of policy issues, showing she was knowledgeable and clearly in command of the subject matter, West said.

“Because she’s being so protected, she could walk into this arena right now and shoot somebody with 20,000 people watching right smack in the middle of the heart and she wouldn’t be prosecuted, OK?” he said. The GOP nominee refused to condemn campaign surrogate and New Hampshire State Rep. Al Baldasaro for arguing that Clinton should be shot for treason.

Clinton then pivoted and tried to characterize the other half of Trump’s supporters, putting them in “that other basket” and saying they need understanding and empathy.
