The move really put the spotlight on Trump’s refusal to release his own returns.

All major USA presidential candidates in modern history have released their returns.

Hillary Clinton is set to go after Donald Trump’s economic agenda – aiming to portray her rival’s approach as offering handouts for the rich.

A recent Rasmussen polls found that 67 percent of likely voters think that all presidential candidates should make at least their latest tax returns public.

The Clintons have disclosed tax returns for every year since 1977, in part due to laws requiring public officials release returns.

Democrats believe Mr Trump’s returns could be a treasure trove of politically damaging information. They want to see his tax rate, charitable giving, and business dealings with foreign governments. “I’ll do the opposite – we should strengthen those rules so that Wall Street can never wreck Main Street again”, she said at a rally in MI.

Trump has said “there’s nothing to learn” from his returns and he has released a personal financial statement, which is legally required.

Her running mate Tim Kaine, along with his wife Anne Holton, paid a rate of 20.3 per cent, his returns show. The campaign said the Kaines had paid an effective Virginia tax rate of 5.4 percent, for a total tax rate of 25.7 percent. Their 2015 adjusted gross income was $313,441, based nearly entire on their salaries – his as a US senator from Virginia and hers as the state’s secretary of education.

That’s a dropoff from the couple’s 2014 earnings, when Clintons were criss-crossing the country getting huge fees for speaking engagements.

Trump has yet to release his tax returns.. The campaign did not respond to messages.

The documents were posted to Clinton’s website on Friday, along with a statement calling out Trump. But her substantial wealth has caused headaches. All told, she earned roughly $9.7 million that year in speaking fees, according to the campaign.

Mrs Clinton and her husband previous year paid an effective federal tax rate of 34.2%, a combined federal, state and local effective rate of 43.2% and donated 9.8% of their income to charity, according to the campaign.

By opening up her IRS documents again, as presidential candidates from both parties have done for some four decades, Clinton may tiresome the effect of any attacks over her lucre. We will be adding a fact check of Clinton’s speech to this space once it is delivered.
