The Clintons paid an effective federal tax rate of 35 per cent in 2015, a slightly higher figure than the 31.55 per cent they paid from 2007 to 2014.

While they are not obliged to by law, it is customary for United States presidential candidates to make their tax returns public. The bulk of their income – more than $6 million – came from speaking fees for appearances made largely before Hillary Clinton launched her campaign in April 2015.
Trump has said he will not release taxes until an IRS audit is completed. “There’s nothing to learn from them”, he said.
Based on their 2015 returns, the Clintons don’t have that last problem, which may be partially why they feel comfortable using them as a political weapon. The couple;s income in 2014 was $28.3 million, more than cut in half in 2015 to $10.6 million – most of that brought in by Bill.
Trump, who campaigned earlier Friday in Erie, Pennsylvania, said he “knows the state very well” and knows Clinton “can’t beat what’s happening here”.
The real estate mogul’s campaign said that Clinton’s move to release her tax returns ‘is nothing more than an attempt at distraction and misdirection’.
Her bid for the White House forced Clinton to give up her primary source of income: paid speeches. Every presidential nominee has released their tax returns since 1973.
On Aug. 8, also in Michigan, Trump proposed his plan to spur growth, calling for a halt on all new federal regulations and tax cuts for individuals and businesses. The campaign noted that the couple have now released all their tax returns dating to 1977.
Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, reported adjusted gross income of $313,441 in 2015.
Clinton’s New Hampshire supporters got into the act, taunting Trump to show his tax returns.
The video includes 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Texas Sen. “A canvass of 200-plus charities, all of them with connections to the mogul, turned up just one small gift of less than $10,000 between 2009 and this May (when Trump, under pressure, made good on a $1 million pledge he had made to help veterans)”.
The piece concluded with Trump’s own undated words advocating all candidates to make the disclosure.

The release of candidate tax returns has been a campaign ritual for decades. The events drew sharp criticism from her former Democratic opponent, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and from Trump, both of whom accused her of being beholden to special interests. Like Clinton, Obama made it a campaign issue. It is not the same organization as the better-known Clinton Foundation.
