Clinton’s doctor: She’s healthy and fit to serve as president

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton squared off Wednesday over their health, with both releasing new information from their medical files to prove they’re fit to serve as president.

According to Clinton’s physician Dr Lisa Bardack, Clinton underwent a chest scan that revealed she had “mild, non-contagious bacterial pneumonia”. I advised her to stay home and rest for the next several days.

A detailed letter about her treatment and overall health has been released by the campaign – with the rest of her complete physical exam described as “normal”. Bardack put Clinton on a 10-day course of the antibiotic Levaquin and said she “continues to improve”.

Clinton was seen on Sunday reassuring the press after her collapse that day.

Clinton aides say she will return to the campaign trail on Thursday after falling ill in public at the weekend. Her blood pressure is 100/70, her cholesterol is 189 (LDL 103, HDL 56), for those keeping score at home.

Reviewing results of a recent physical, Trump discussed campaign weight gain and pondered being the nation’s oldest president, at 70 years old.

On the other hand, the only information made public so far regarding Trump’s medical condition has been a four-paragraph note by his doctor, Harold Bornstein, who said he would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”. She found that Clinton was “re-hydrating and recovering nicely”. (Clinton is actually two years younger than the GOP presidential nominee.) He has called her “low energy” and said she likes to take naps.

As for the Democratic presidential nominee’s recent health scare where she became light-headed and dizzy leaving a 9/11 memorial in NY, her doctor was well aware of what she was going through as she’d already examined her beforehand. The campaign also released more details about the results of routine lab tests given to the Democratic presidential nominee, such as blood cholesterol levels and her annual mammogram.

Following the worrying incident, Mrs Clinton’s campaign was forced to admit she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier.

Bacterial pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics while viral pneumonia necessitates a different approach, according to Dr. Steve Simpson, acting director of the Division of Pulmonary Disease at the University of Kansas Hospital.

The candidate now takes thyroid and allergy medicines as well as the blood thinner Coumadin, which was initially prescribed as a preventative measure after she suffered a blood clot following a concussion in 2012.

Bardack also revealed the course of Clinton’s current pneumonia, for which the nominee first went for evaluation September 2. The letter said Kaine has never smoked and his alcohol use is “modest”.

Meanwhile, her rival Donald Trump has also announced the release the details of his recent physical tes this week.

CBS News’ Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook told CBSN Wednesday evening.
