Clinton, Sanders agree to NY debate ahead of primary

The campaign team of U.S. presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton has said that rival Bernie Sanders rejected three proposed debate dates ahead of the NY primary on April 19 – marking the latest dustup in an increasingly heated fight for the Democratic nomination, media reported.

Sanders initially had resisted holding a debate on April 14 because his campaign had secured a permit for a rally in Washington Square Park that evening. Clinton said to Robin, she thought he had penciled it in for April the 14th.

Zeleny said that Clinton is furious that the primary is still going on and that the campaign needs to be spending money.

“I’m confident that we will work out a time that’s good for both of our schedules and when large numbers of people will be watching”, Sanders said.

After a year of campaigning, months of debates and 35 primary elections in the Democratic presidential race, Bernie Sanders is finally getting under Hillary Clinton’s skin. “This is a guy who has been vehemently anti-union at a time when we need unions to grow-so they can provide decent wages, working conditions for people”.

There have been eight debates already featuring Clinton and Sanders, including four early on that also included now ex-candidate Martin O’Malley.

Mrs Clinton also has a huge lead of 27 percentage points in her home state.

Most recently the Sanders campaign won a share of delegates at Nevada country conventions that outpaced the actual number of delegates they won during the February caucus, a development that Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver said could net the campaign upward of eight delegates.

All told, Clinton raised almost $75 million in the first quarter of 2016, easily beating her campaign’s stated goal of $50 million.

On Saturday, the Sanders campaign cited-of all things-basketball as the reason for backing out of the April 4th debate offer.

Clinton even suggested that Sanders’ actions reflect that of a candidate who is badly losing in the race.

Sanders is drawing sizable crowds in NY, attracting 18,500 to a rally in the South Bronx on Thursday.

“The delegate math is on our side: Hillary Clinton has a lead of almost 230 pledged delegates – and with each passing week, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Senator Sanders will be able to catch up”.
