Clinton says may restart campaigning in a “couple of days”

“And I could feel how hot and humid it was, I felt overheated, I decided that I did need to leave and as soon as I got into the air-conditioned van I cooled off, I got some water and very quickly I felt better so I felt fine”.

Clinton said she would get back on the campaign trail as soon as possible after taking some rest as advised by the doctors.

“What happened this time, though, was it didn’t dissipate, and that’s why when I got off the road on Friday, I did go to see my doctor, and that’s when I was diagnosed with pneumonia”, Clinton said.

Indeed, some Democrats said it wasn’t Clinton’s pneumonia diagnosis or even the jarring video of her stumbling into a van that leaves them nervous.

At the time, roughly 90 minutes passed before aides said Clinton left because she was overheated.

A video taken on Sunday shows Clinton leaning against a security post before her knees buckled.

Trump was also at the memorial in NY on Sunday, and the campaign did not even coordinate with his press pool so that they could attend. She was diagnosed with the lung infection on Friday.

The incident fueled questions about Clinton’s health.

On Monday, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed called the reaction to Clinton’s potential health issues sexist and nonsense.

The Republican presidential nominee said that being elected to the White House means: “You’re president of all the people”.

He also said Clinton’s team would be releasing medical records “in the next few days” in order to “further put to rest any lingering concerns about what you saw yesterday”. She was then driven to her home in suburban Chappaqua, New York.

Mrs Clinton suffered a coughing fit last week at a campaign event in Cleveland, Ohio, which also fuelled speculation about her condition.

“Obviously, that didn’t work out too well”, she said.

She had made a full recovery from surgery she underwent in 2012 for a blood clot, the doctor added. “You know, compare everything you know about me with my opponent”.

“But millions of dollars have been spent, and look what you’re doing, Charlie”, Clinton said, criticizing Rose’s line of questioning.

She told CNN Monday that she ignored her doctor’s advice to take it easy because she said she was “incredibly committed” to being at a September 11 anniversary event in New York City Sunday.

Clinton’s evening interview, in which she promised to release more information at some point, came as her campaign scrambled to head off lasting damage from a hard weekend.

Last week, Clinton said she had seasonal allergies. She has the additional challenge of being the first female presidential nominee from a major political party – and may have to face biases within the electorate over whether a female candidate is sufficiently “strong”, regardless of her age. It was unclear when she planned to return to the campaign trail.

Will Clinton pay for her bad weekend? “It’s just the kind of thing if it happens to you and you’re an active person you keep moving forward”, Clinton said.

Pneumonia is essentially an infection of the lungs which causes inflammation in the air sacs and fills them with fluid. There are two types – bacterial or viral.
