Clinton selected as Democratic nominee with Sanders’ support
With at least 2,382 delegates pledged to her, Clinton became the first woman to be nominated to a major USA party ticket after a tough primary fight against Sanders.

One thing, however, is for sure: The number of current and former Oval Office dwellers cheering Clinton on are much higher than those doing the same for her opponent.
Many said Hillary Clinton’s nomination as the Democratic candidate for president would prompt them to quit the party.
It was a striking parallel to the role Mrs Clinton played eight years ago when she stepped to the microphone on the convention floor in Denver in support of her former rival, Barack Obama. What’s different between what I told you and what they said, how do you square that? In a move towards party unity, Sanders moved for the party to choose Hillary Clinton for president.
Turning Republican attacks on their head, Mr Clinton offered a tacit admission that his wife was part of the political scenery and that she was not always as flashy, or such a gifted orator, as other politicians.
Bill Clinton takes the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Melissa Michelson, a Sanders delegate from Los Angeles, said she came to show solidarity with “the political revolution, that is continuing”.
Clinton later addressed the crowd in a short live video from NY, telling them, “We have put the biggest crack yet in that glass ceiling”.
‘I hope you will elect her. Madeline Whitehill, a Pennsylvania delegate and Bernie supporter, says she will vote for Clinton in November but feels “sad for our country and sad for the world” that Sanders did not prevail.
In his prime-time address, Bill Clinton will be capping a day in which Democrats want to showcase Hillary Clinton’s achievements on issues such as women and families, healthcare and as a former secretary of state.
Republicans, meanwhile, were enjoying the traditional post-convention bump in polling numbers for their candidate, real estate developer Donald Trump, after formally nominating Trump amid fanfare at the party’s convention last week.
On Thursday, the four-day convention will culminate with a speech from the nominee herself.
“Tonight we will make history, about 100 years in the making”, said Karen Finney, a senior adviser for Mrs Clinton’s campaign.

If any young girls had stayed up to watch the history being made, she told them, “I may be the first woman ever elected president – but you’re next”.
