On Wednesday, ABC News reported that top Republican operatives were looking at ways to deal with an unprecedented scenario: What would the party do if their nominee dropped out of the race? The RealClearPolitics average of recent national polls put her 4.5 percentage points ahead of Trump, at 46.5 percent to 42 percent.
As of Monday, however, Trump was still at it. He held a campaign rally in Daytona, Florida, and took to Twitter to trumpet the cohesiveness of his campaign.
Pence’s endorsement, which came in a phone call to Fox News Channel, came as Trump and his aides struck back against reports of panic inside the Republican Party and word that the Ryan controversy infuriated party Chairman Reince Priebus.
The ad is running in nine battleground states. Clinton raised about $90 million over the same period.
Trump’s stunning slap at two of the nation’s most prominent Republicans dramatically escalated GOP turmoil barely a week after a convention meant to promote party unity.
“She stands and has stood for causes bigger than herself for a lifetime”, he said.

A former reality TV star with a propensity for free-flowing insults, Trump has won support particularly from white blue-collar workers who feel neglected by the political establishment.
