Clinton should have congratulated me in acceptance speech

“Well, a great Democratic president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, came up with the flawless rebuke to Trump more than 80 years ago, during a much more perilous time: ‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself'”. Sanders supporters booed when speakers talked up Clinton, until comedian Sarah Silverman, a Sanders supporter, saved the day by saying, “Bernie-or-Bust people, you’re being ridiculous”, and Michelle Obama’s moving endorsement blew away any lingering clouds.

But Clinton instead took aim at her presidential rival in her acceptance speech.

“I’m telling you we’ve made progress but we have work to do”, Clinton said, subtly responding to Trump’s criticism that the DNC was delivered from a “fantasy universe”.

“We are clear-eyed about what our country is up against, but we are not afraid”, she said. “And yes, if you believe that your working mother, wife, sister, or daughter deserves equal pay – join us!”

Clinton called on Americans to consider Donald Trump’s “temperament”. “Our way of life is under threat by radical Islam and Hillary Clinton can not even bring herself to say the words”.

So chalk this one as a win for Trump after a tough week in which he looked like he might not claim the rating wars-the ratings for the previous three nights of the star-studded DNC had edged out the first three nights of the RNC by millions of viewers.

It opens a new chapter in what is already one of the most divisive presidential campaigns in modern U.S. history after Republicans and Democrats spent the last fortnight formally selecting their nominees.

Clinton’s unpopularity is second only to Trump’s, with a disapproval rating of 55 per cent compared to his 57 per cent, according to recent averages.

There’s no question that the Republicans and Trump enjoyed a campaign boost in the polls due to their convention, and it’s likely Clinton will do the same now.

Clinton embraced the communitarian theme, signaling that her “Stronger Together” slogan would remain at the heart of her campaign.

Over the coming months, we can expect to hear much more of Hillary’s pitch for unity and see her strategy to convince wavering voters to come on side. “I know this because I served with her”, John Allen, who was commander in Afghanistan, said. “Millions!” Trump said Friday during a campaign appearance in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“My primary mission as president will be to create more opportunity and more good jobs with rising wages, right here in the United States”, she said.

KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR: I said that because I know that Donald Trump couldn’t tell the difference.

Throughout the short speeches, Trump was mentioned about 20 times.

But numerous Vermont senator’s backers weren’t persuaded, especially after leaked emails confirmed their suspicions that national party leaders favored the former secretary of state during a protracted contest for the Democratic nomination.

At the Republican convention Trump doubled down on controversial plans to clamp down on crime and on immigration from countries – including France – that he deems “compromised” by terror attacks.

Trump is a candidate like no other and if he wins will be a president like no other as well
