Clinton Still Claiming FBI Said She Was ‘Truthful’ About Server

“I was pointing out in both of those instances that Director Comey had said that my answers in my F.B.I. interview were truthful”, she continued.

Comey, however, was speaking exclusively about her responses in a closed-door Federal Bureau of Investigation interview last month, and not her public comments on the issue, which have included inconsistencies.

As New York Times public editor Liz Spayd has written, Clinton’s answers were in the Fox News interview were “misleading, bordering on false”.

The Trump campaign pounced on Clinton’s comment from the Fox interview, labeling it “pants on fire”. Many more emails contained sensitive information, but were marked classified only later. Clinton said. “Just maybe, when I’m actually running for a job, there is a real benefit to those on the other side with trying to stir up as much trouble as possible”. “And for that, I will try to clarify, because I think Chris Wallace and I were probably talking past each other”, Clinton said.

Tapper continued that more than 2,000 of Clinton’s emails contained classified information, most of which were classified retroactively, but that 110 emails contained information that was classified at the time the emails were sent or received.

“By yet again falsely claiming that what Director Comey said at his press conference is consistent with what she told the American people about her reckless mishandling of classified information, Hillary Clinton is once again proving herself incapable of telling the truth to the nation. But even if information is not marked “classified” in an e-mail, participants who know or should know that the subject matter is classified are still obligated to protect it”, Comey said.

Clinton said Friday that the three emails cited by Comey “did not have the appropriate markings” and as a result, “it was therefore reasonable to conclude that anyone, including myself, would not have suspected that they were classified”. And she said Comey’s own statements during the July hearing showed “there was absolutely no intention on my part to either ignore or in any way dismiss the importance of those documents”.
