Clinton tears into Trump over Muslim soldier row

McCain’s response was a lengthy denunciation in which he said the GOP nomination does not confer on Trump “unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”. Captain Khan was one such fearless example, His sacrifice – and that of Khizr and Ghazala Khan – should always be honored. Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt said the Khans “deserve to be heard and respected”.

Ron Johnson, all appeared at the national convention two weeks ago and gave full-throated endorsements of Trump.

“We feel we must speak out and demand you apologise to the Khans, to all Gold Star families, and to all Americans for your offensive, and frankly anti-American, comments”, they said in an open letter. Kelly Ayotte said she was “appalled” by Trump and his “gall to compare his own sacrifices to those of a Gold Star family”. “Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say, you tell me”.

Christie also responded to comments by President Barack Obama earlier Tuesday that Trump isn’t qualified to be president.

Families of other soldiers killed in combat have also begun demanding that Trump apologize.

Trump responded saying Khan did not have a right to question whether he had read the Constitution.

It’s just the latest Trump-created conundrum for Republican senators who need support from Trump’s enthusiastic backers to win re-election, but risk alienating moderate Republicans, independents, minorities and women if they embrace the GOP nominee too closely. And now the choice is between him and Hillary Clinton who I don’t trust and has always been misleading people and has been for 25 years.

“Even when he knows Donald Trump is wrong, Sen”. “And I’m afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest”.

The father of slain soldier said on Monday that the Republican presidential nominee lacked the empathy to be a leader and chided him for throwing the first salvo in their exchange.

His son, Humayun Khan, graduated from the University of Virginia in 2000 before becoming an Army captain and serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“I’d like to say to Mr. and Mrs. Khan: thank you for immigrating to America”, McCain added in his statement Monday.

Several other GOP lawmakers also chastised Trump for sparring with the Khans, who appeared at the Democratic convention on behalf of Hillary Clinton.

Khan, in his appearance on “New Day”, exhorted Trump to take policy steps that would curtail extremism, not exacerbate it. He said the focus should be on “terrorism”, not the parents.

It didn’t take long for Ghazala Khan to set the record straight by penning an op-ed in the Washington Post where she explained her silence as a form of suffering and mourning for her lost son.

On Sunday, Democratic rival Clinton said Trump had scapegoated the parents. Over the weekend, he singled out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan on MSNBC, saying the “only reason they’re not repudiating his behavior, his threat to our democracy, our decency, our foundation, is just because of political consequences”.

Trump infamously mocked McCain, saying he is “not a war hero”.
