Clinton to appear in West Philadelphia

Clinton said at a voter registration event at a Philadelphia high school that she’s “not taking anybody anywhere for granted” in the race for the White House, saying the stakes “could not be higher”.

On Monday, Clinton spoke alongside Vice President Joe Biden in his hometown of Scranton, where they criticized Republic presidential candidate Donald Trump for his proposed tax cuts and his failure to release his tax returns.

The news comes as opinion surveys show Trump trailing Clinton nationally and in a host of key battleground states.

“Team U.S.A.is showing the world what this country stands for”, Clinton told the boisterous crowd.

In a brief phone interview with The Associated Press early Wednesday, Trump confirmed the news, calling the pair “big people” whom he said would help him defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the fall.

Trump’s remarks, delivered via teleprompter in a rare departure from his usual freewheeling rally remarks, came after Clinton vowed Tuesday to conduct a national security and foreign policy that Americans could be proud of.

Trump has stoked tensions during his campaign.

Republican Donald Trump says he has no plans to pivot to another style for the general election, despite the urging of party leaders.

“I’ll tell you how we’re going to pay for it”, Clinton said.

“You’d be surprised how many people you come across who actually don’t have affordable healthcare and are in bad situations”, he said.

“We are going to lead the world in accordance with our value, in pursuance of our interests and furtherance of our security along with our friends and allies”, she said.

“I think people understand in that neighborhood and Sherman Park and in Milwaukee, they want law enforcement to step up and protect them”, he said, adding that “statements like that” from Clinton and a “lack of leadership” from President Barack Obama “only inflame the situation”.

Trump traveled Tuesday to Milwaukee, the site of ongoing protests over the fatal shooting of a black man by a black police officer.

Trump this week said the country’s national security requirements demanded “extreme” vetting of immigrants seeking admission to the United States, pointing to the threat of the Islamic State group and terrorism elements. His visit followed several days of violence that has left businesses in flames.

But he didn’t say which countries or regions would be subject to the “extreme” vetting, and his announcement that government agencies would create the list suggested that would not happen before the election in November.

Four polls in the last two weeks – NBC-Wall Street Journal-Marist, Quinnipiac University, Susquehanna Polling & Research and Franklin & Marshall College – show Clinton lead over Trump expanding to a 10- or 11-percentage points since the end of the Republican and Democratic nomination conventions in July.
