Warren comes from a safe state for Democrats, Kaine from a battleground, although Clinton rates as a prohibitive favorite over Trump in the Old Dominion. Her near-certain opponent (Donald Trump, you may have heard of him) is viewed unfavorably by 7 in 10 voters, had $1.3 million in his campaign account at the end of May and continues to war with a not-insignificant bloc within his own party.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is not on the shortlist of vice presidential candidates, according to one Democrat.
Other important factors for the presidential hopeful include someone who she personally feels comfortable with, as well as someone who can energize the party, while rallying Democrats in Congress, the Post reports.
Of the three candidates, Kaine is the least prominent within the financial services world: A former Virginia governor and chairman of the Democratic National Committee, he was elected to the Senate in 2012 and serves on the Armed Services, Budget and Foreign Relations Committees.
Warren has come out and endorsed Clinton – something Sanders has yet to do. But with Democratic primary voting wrapping up last week, the list has been culled significantly and the campaign has begun contacting those under consideration. The arguments: The two don’t really get along; Clinton would never pick a number two who could outshine her; Clinton doesn’t want a VP who would create her own power center in both the campaign and the White House.
Clinton will never say this, but looking at those factors there has to be a belief within her campaign that if she simply effectively blocks and tackles in the next five months she will win.
The Democratic National Convention will take place July 25-28 in Philadelphia.
Mrs Clinton’s campaign was mum after an Associated Press report on Tuesday naming Mr Kaine, Mrs Warren and Mr Castro as early choices to be vetted, and campaign spokesman Brian Fallon declined to comment.
