Clinton to make case for presidency

Trump has been criticized for painting a dark, dystopian view of America during his speech at the Republican National Convention last week.

Clinton had just been anointed the inheritor of Obama’s legacy with his vigorous endorsement speech, the candidate who could realize the “promise of this great nation”. But she knows that’s what happens when you’re under a microscope for 40 years.

He talked about her experience, which includes serving as secretary of state during his first term, contrasting it with that of Republican nominee Donald Trump who has never held elected office.Obama said nothing truly prepares a person for being president.

Her chief rival in the bruising Democratic primary battle, Senator Bernie Sanders, called on his supporters this week to line up behind Clinton, aiming to draw a line under protests by “Bernie or bust” Democrats who remain angry over her victory.

The challenge for her will be restating the anti-Trump argument in a fresh way that energizes Democrats and doesn’t alienate Republicans.

By contrast, Obama said, “We don’t fear the future”. “We will strike their sanctuaries from the air, and support local forces taking them out on the ground”. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying. “Yes, we’ve still got more work to do”, Mr. Obama said. But we are not afraid. While Clinton acknowledged the serious problems facing the country and the world, she appeared to be contrasting herself to Trump by stressing how unity can overcome those problems.

But her remarks signal a plan to focus attention on pockets of down-and-out communities which have felt ignored by the slow and erratic economic recovery.

At the convention on Wednesday, US Senator Tim Kaine, Clinton’s running mate, described billionaire Trump as “a one-man wrecking crew” who can not be trusted in the Oval Office.

But that’s not the only task Clinton will have.

“Our country does not feel “great already” to the millions of wonderful people living in poverty, violence and despair”, he said on Twitter.

“No matter how daunting the odds, no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits”. That same day, state Democratic Chairman Mike Madigan said the next state gubernatorial primary was a wide open affair. “And that is not the America I know”. I worked for Ronald Reagan.

“That is another bet that Donald Trump will lose”, Obama continued.

“Trump is a petulant, dangerously unbalanced reality star who will coddle tyrants and alienate allies”.

The convention has been rocked with intra-party strife, as supporters of Sen.

Speaking to delegates, Obama offered an alternative to businessman Trump’s vision of the United States as being under siege from illegal immigrants, crime and terrorism and losing influence in the world. “We’re not a fragile people”.

Clinton was introduced by her daughter, Chelsea, who spoke warmly of her mother as a woman “driven by compassion, by faith, by kindness, a fierce sense of justice, and a heart full of love”. Instead, Clinton gave a speech grounded by specific policy proposals: She promised to overturn Citizens United – “with a constitutional amendment if necessary” – and reform the criminal justice system She promised to fight for a living wage, tuition free college for the poor, equal pay for women, comprehensive immigration reform, gun control, and to make Wall Street and corporations “pay their fair share” in taxes.
