Clinton to propose tax break for caregivers

Speaking to hundreds at the Charleston County Democratic Party’s Blue Jamboree – including many wearing T-shirts or toting signs supporting Sanders – Clinton suggested that Sanders’s health-care proposal would effectively raise taxes on the middle class and amount to a dismantling of President Obama’s signature health-care law – a notion that Sanders disputes.

The tax break Clinton will propose would allow people to offset up to $6,000 in elder-care expenses annually and would provide a maximum tax benefit of $1,200, the campaign says.

Following Clinton’s opening remarks when she detailed her tax plans, guests at the town hall meeting were given an opportunity to share some of their concerns with the presidential candidate.

Clinton will also call for caregivers to earn credit toward their Social Security retirement benefits when they are not working, and propose investing $100 million over 10 years in a grants program for family caregivers.

The statement came in response to a pair of initiatives put forward by Clinton on Sunday that would benefit people who care for an elderly parent or other family member.

Hillary Clinton believes caregivers deserve tax relief from the federal government and she shared that belief with hundreds of people gathered at Clinton (Iowa) Middle School on Sunday night.

The latest endorsement boosts the former U.S. secretary of state’s hold on Democratic support over her closest rival, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who has struggled to lock down major union support despite longstanding ties with the labor movement.

“The bottom line for me is caregiving takes a lot of love”, Clinton says, “and a lot of challenging experiences that often test one’s emotional and physical well-being”.

It also signals a push to win over organized labor by his campaign as the Granite State remains a close race between the top two Democrats – Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton has shifted her focus to tax cuts.

“I like that she spoke about affordable education”, Laurie said. “I think we’re smart enough to figure that out”. “You don’t need tax credits if you have a cost-effective health-care system….”

She said she’s laying out how she will pay for all of of her proposals and future proposals as well.
