Some state Republican parties have established minimum thresholds a candidate needs either statewide or in a congressional district to be awarded delegates.

It was an apparent effort to get other candidates to drop their presidential bids.

The victory adds to Trump’s tally of Super Tuesday victories.

Republican presidential candidate, Sen.

The GOP’s great Cuban hope, Mr. Rubio was meant to be the one who would curb the tremendous momentum of Donald Trump and pinch support from Ted Cruz.

“All across our country today, Democrats voted to break down barriers so we can all rise together”, she declared.

“The rhetoric we’re hearing on the other side has never been lower”.

Trump, instead of holding a victory rally, conducted lengthy press conference at his Mar-a-Lago Club. “If she hasn’t straightened it out by now, she’s not going to straighten it out in the next four years”. “It means so much to me that the people who know me best… and know me as senator have voted so strongly to put us in the White House”.

Mr Trump has repeatedly courted controversy in the campaign. They were more likely to support Marco Rubio, a first-term senator who rejects the Washington insider label. He’s seeking to stay competitive in the delegate count and hoping to pull off a win in his home state of Florida on March 15.

“We are blessed with a deep, talented, honorable field”, Cruz said on Tuesday night in Texas.

Trump has won at least 175 of the delegates at stake in Tuesday’s contests.

Rubio in particular has chided Trump over a host of issues, including litigation involving Trump University and the NY real estate mogul’s refusal to immediately disavow former KKK leader David Duke in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday. So while Cruz is exceeding expectations in some states, he doesn’t appear to have a path to winning a majority of delegates. But Sanders faces tough questions about whether he can rally minorities who are core Democratic voters.

ABC News projects Trump will win the Georgia GOP primary, based on exit poll data and vote analysis.

Republicans spent months largely letting Trump go unchallenged, wrongly assuming his populist appeal would fizzle.

Clinton steadied herself after an unexpectedly strong challenge from Sanders.

“If she’s allowed to run, honestly it’ll be a sad day for this country because what she did was wrong”, Trump said. His weakness with black voters, a core part of the Democratic constituency, was underscored anew.

Trump took Alabama, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Georgia, Virginia and Arkansas as attention turned to Western states reporting later. She was also bolstered by women and older voters.
