Her speech also drew attention after the discovery that two passages of her remarks matched almost word-for-word the speech that first lady Michelle Obama delivered in 2008 at the Democratic National Convention.

As noted by The Washington Post’s James Hohmann, most of the speeches seemed better placed at CPAC than at the Republican National Convention – where the GOP is looking to attract votes from outside the base in hopes of propelling it over the top in November.
Some elements of the opening day of the convention were positive for Trump.
“Donald Trump believes in one America, with liberty and justice for all. Donald Trump will make America great again!”
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. brought the crowd to its feet with his declaration that “Blue Lives Matter”.
“Oh, we’re gonna win”.
“It’s time we had an administration that cares more about Americans than about illegals”, Mendoza said.
One of the most striking recurring suggestions of the Republican Convention’s first day was that Hillary Clinton should be sent to prison.
The program was at times overshadowed by disorder in the arena itself. As the convention rolls on, here’s a cheat sheet for where Trump and Clinton stand on key economic and business issues. They lost – but not before sparking recrimination on the convention floor in late afternoon.
The passages in question focus on lessons that Mrs. Trump, the wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, said she learned from her parents and the relevance of their lessons in her experience as a mother. While Smith and others were speaking, Trump called in to Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly to slam former rival Ohio Gov. John Kasich for skipping this week’s convention in his own state.
“I have no idea what’s going on right now”, Senator Mike Lee, a Utah Republican who had been leading the anti-Trump effort, told reporters. But Donald Trump, flouting tradition as is his way, emerged to sweeping spotlights and the thundering cords of “We Are the Champions” to introduce her – on day one, robbing the whole affair of delicious anticipation.
The poll also found a wide gender gap, with women overwhelmingly supporting Clinton (54-28 percent) while men lean toward Trump (44 percent to 40 percent), Quinnipiac pollsters said.
Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who served in the Obama administration, echoed similar sentiment later, aimed at Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. Others recounted their experiences during the 2012 attacks on the USA outpost in Benghazi. The hour was even later and the crowd even sparser by the time Sen.
The Slovenian native, who spoke with poise in heavily-accented English, paid strong tribute to the candidate’s attributes as a father and a husband.
Democratic nominee Clinton leads the bombastic billionaire by just 3.2 points in Monday’s Real Clear Politics’ national poll average – which is essentially a tie, given the 2-point margin of error.
But the controversy over alleged plagiarism ignited on social media and it may yet burn away the positive first impressions from the address.
Trump now has an opportunity to rebrand his campaign in a way that is more attractive to a general election audience.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani offered a hand-flailing speech.. When they come to save your life, they don’t ask if you’re black or white.

Giuliani’s broader argument was an indictment of what he called “the Clinton-Obama years”, a period that he asserted was characterized by divisiveness at home and weakness overseas.
