But Clinton’s campaign now says that after further discussions with community leaders, the Democratic presidential nominee will postpone the trip to avoid straining the city’s resources.

The editorial – which will appear in print on Sunday, the day before the first presidential debate – emphasizes national security and cites Clinton’s experience as secretary of state in saying she is better qualified to shape U.S. foreign policy than her GOP challenger.

In an interview with CNN anchor Erin Burnett earlier Friday, Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts (D) asked both candidates to delay plans to visit the city.

Charlotte has been rocked during the past few days by mostly peaceful protests over the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott, who was killed by police on Tuesday.

“In the meantime her prayers are with the people of Charlotte during these hard days”, Palmieri continued.

The Times said Clinton’s mistakes had distorted perceptions of her character, but praised her work restoring USA credibility in foreign affairs as secretary of state and on behalf of children, women and families throughout her career.
