Clinton, Trump show stark national security differences in debate preview
A spokesman for the Democratic candidate, Nick Merrill, suggested that she had been referring to the “alt right” movement – a brand of American political conservatism which is associated with white nationalism. “Not only drugs but also alcohol”, Clinton said. “Last night I was ‘grossly generalistic, ‘ and that’s never a good idea”. I’ve been all over the world.

“I’m determined to bring our country together and make our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top”, she said. “I’ve done…tremendously well dealing with China and dealing with so numerous countries that are just ripping this country”. She said her vote to authorize the Iraq War was a “mistake”, then vowed: “We are not putting ground troops into Iraq ever again and we are not putting ground troops into Syria”. The US also has to do a better job “combating ISIS online, where they recruit, where they radicalise”.
“We need change, and we need it fast”.
“Nobody directs or inspires attacks against the United States and gets away with it”, she said, comparing the mission to the 2011 killing of the al-Qaida leader who directed the September 11 attacks that killed almost 3,000.
Clinton elaborated on those remarks at the Thursday press conference, saying putting a significant number of USA troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria would “fulfill one of (ISIS’) dearest wishes which is to drag the United States back into a ground war in that region”.
“We’ve got to have an intelligence surge and we’ve got to get a lot more cooperation out of Europe, out of the Middle East”.
“I have great faith in the military”, he continued.
Speaking at a LGBTI fundraiser in New York, Mrs Clinton said Mr Trump had given voice to hateful rhetoric through his behaviour as a candidate for the White House in the November 8 election. But he got caught up in the email thing – not realizing it’s all been played out – not able to really get the gotcha as he tried to keep going. “I have a plan”. So let me just say from the bottom of my heart: Hillary, they are not a basket of anything, they are Americans, and they deserve your respect. “We’re to defeat ISIS without committing American ground troops”.
“Every Republican holding or seeking office in this country should be asked if they agree with Donald Trump about these statements”, Clinton said in a morning news conference.
“I think under the leadership of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton the generals have been reduced to rubble”.
“Not taking (action), and permitting there to be an ongoing civil war in Libya, would have been as unsafe and threatening as what we are now seeing in Syria”, she added.
Regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said that “the man has very strong control over a country”.
Trump did not directly respond to Clinton’s critique Thursday.
A flood of Republican national security experts have instead chosen to back Clinton, helping bolster her case that Trump is broadly unacceptable.
“I’m not asking for any special treatment”, she said.
She also said she was focussed on the “other malicious activities of the Iranians – ballistic missiles, support for terrorists, being involved in Syria, Yemen, and other places, supporting Hezbollah, Hamas”.

Clinton and Trump were both asked about veterans’ mental health issues, and both promised to do more to reduce suicides.
