But leaders of the group greeted the Democratic presidential candidate’s vitriol with unrestrained glee.
Trump and his allies have been questioning the health of his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton.
The chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) on Friday said Kaine crossed a line by comparing Trump with the KKK.
“Yes, because her policies, and others that believe like she does also”, Donald Trump said.
Trump tweeted Friday: “How quickly people forget that Crooked Hillary called African-American youth “SUPER PREDATORS” – Has she apologized?”
Clinton, a former secretary of state, has led real estate developer Trump in the poll since Democrats and Republicans ended their national conventions and formally nominated their presidential candidates in July. Clinton has said she regrets the remarks.
“Here’s what we’re going to make sure of, that the good work that these programs are doing continues”, Clinton told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”. Hillary Clinton unloading on Donald Trump in a blistering speech saying, quote, “he is taking hate groups mainstream and helping the radical fringe take over the Republican Party”.
Clinton accused Trump on Thursday of fanning the flames of the “alt-right”, a term that refers to far-right-wingers.
“She lies, she smears, she paints decent Americans as racists”, Trump said, in a Thursday address.
Clinton attacks came during a hard week for her campaign, as the release of new emails from her time as secretary of state revived criticism of her decision to use a private address and server rather than a government one.
More questions were raised when an Associated Press report earlier this week said over half of the people outside of government who met with her while she was secretary of state were donors of the Clinton Foundation.
Clinton is eager to capitalize on Trump’s slipping poll numbers, particularly among moderate Republican women turned off by his controversial campaign.
Joni Ernst offered some advice for her party’s standard-bearer Saturday, telling Donald Trump he should focus on hitting Hillary Clinton and discussing policy, “not name calling”.
Speaking in New Hampshire later, Trump lashed out at Clinton, saying she was accusing “the decent Americans who support this campaign, your campaign, of being racists, which we’re not”.
“I don’t like it when campaigns go that direction”.
“I don’t think these efforts will do a lot to help him in minority communities”, Fraga said.
Trump met Thursday in NY with members of a new Republican Party initiative meant to train young – and largely minority – volunteers.
“Trump management was charged with discriminating against African-Americans, and breaking federal law”, a voiceover says in the commercial, before using a sound bite from Trump where he says: “I have a great relationship with the blacks”.
