Clinton urges US Congress to reconvene, pass Zika bill

Overall, Texas has documented 99 cases of Zika virus disease, including one other case of Zika-linked microcephaly, all related to travel overseas.

The reports of insecticide success in Miami were the second bit of recent good news on the Zika front in the United States.

KPRC reports the baby’s mother traveled to El Salvador while she was pregnant and is believed to have been infected there.

The death of a Texas newborn has been linked to the Zika virus, health officials say. He said that the original area was identified based on the assumption that Aedes aegypti can only travel 150 to 200 meters in their lifetime, but some research suggests that they can actually travel up to 800 meters.

Hillary Clinton is turning to a major health issue in the battleground state of Florida with a visit Tuesday to a Miami neighborhood dealing with the first US outbreak of the Zika virus.

Rubio met in Miami Aug. 4 with Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Florida’s Gov. Rick Scott.

“We have assembled millions in state and federal funds to help attack the problem”.

In February, the National Catholic Bioethics Center issued a statement that Zika does not justify abortion or artificial birth control even with the suspected connection between the Zika virus and birth defects.

So far, the almost 1,700 Zika infections reported in the United States have mostly been linked to travel to countries with Zika outbreaks in Latin America or the Caribbean.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation launched a new billboard advocacy campaign specifically in South Florida lauding the role of condoms in preventing Zika transmission through sexual intercourse.

“Naturally the Zika virus is a cause for concern, and we call upon governments and medical professionals to continue to develop appropriate treatments and interventions”, Father Pavone said. Zika can also be transmitted sexually.

After meeting doctors, Clinton inspected the leaflets and mosquito nets being handed out to residents and chatted with a pregnant woman who worked in the neighborhood who had gotten back her test results: negative for Zika. However, the virus is deemed to be particularly risky for pregnant women, as scientists increasingly concur that it can lead to a birth defect known as microcephaly, in which infants are born with unusually small heads and severely deformed brains.

Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon and death is rare.

Donald Trump campaigned in Florida earlier this month but did not mention the Zika virus.
