Clinton uses DNC to send message to Trump-wary Republican voters

“Please explain to me what part of America first leads him to make Trump ties in China, not Colorado”, she said.

Addressing a packed crowd of over 50,000 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Mrs Clinton said that “America’s strength doesn’t come from lashing out” when faced with hostility. Which seems a tad harsh, coming from a man whose own acceptance speech promised that “the crime and violence that afflicts our nation” would “come to an end” the day he steps into the Oval Office.

After a convention speech aimed squarely at undercutting Trump, the first female presidential nominee embarks on a bus tour through two Rust Belt battlegrounds, OH and Pennsylvania.

“Tonight, we’ve reached a milestone in our nation’s march toward a more ideal union: the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president”, Hillary Clinton said to a roar of applause at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Vying to be the first woman elected U.S. president, Mrs Clinton called her nomination “a milestone”.

John Stubbs and Ricardo Reyes, two former officials in President George W. Bush’s administration, attended the convention to generate interest in their pro-Clinton grassroots organization called R4C16.org.

“He wants us to fear the future and fear each other”.

After a bruising primary campaign against Bernie Sanders, and as she savaged Trump, Clinton extended an olive branch of sorts to her skeptics and critics. “I knew Ronald Reagan”. Hillary Clinton (N.Y.). Obama felt the need to put her down, and in a particularly disdainful way, he said, famously, “You’re likable enough, Hillary”.

Hillary Clinton used her speech to the Democratic National Convention to criticise rival presidential candidate Donald Trump’s economic record, lack of “plans” and unreliability in crisis situations.

Sanders declared his support for Clinton in an earlier speech at the convention. Clinton, who aides say spent weeks working on her address, saw the speech as a major opportunity to answer what her husband called the “cartoon alternative”. “No wonder people are anxious and looking for reassurance – looking for steady leadership”.

“I certainly know that with her as our commander-in-chief, our foreign relations will not be reduced to a business transaction, I also know that our armed forces will not become an instrument of torture”, said Gen Allen.

And a senior adviser accused Clinton of “talking down to the American people”. “By the way, I thought our stage in Cleveland was much more attractive”, Trump said.

Khizr Kahn, a Muslim whose son was one of 14 Muslims killed while serving in the military since the Sept 11, 2001, attacks, drew cheers when he pulled out a pocket copy of the US Constitution and said he wanted to show it to Mr Trump. Since then, every time I have seen her, she has been consistently friendly and open to conversation. “In Atlantic City, 60 miles from here, you’ll find contractors and small businesses who lost everything because Donald Trump refused to pay his bills”.

Instead, with Trump, Democrats are characterizing the contest as a battle between democratic pluralism and authoritarianism.
