With a chaotic Republican convention in Cleveland, and troubling remarks on Wednesday suggesting that Trump would be pleased if Russian cyber-spies hacked Hillary Clinton’s email account, Trump set the ball on the tee for Clinton. “But we are not afraid”. However, we still have much work to do to come together.
Clinton, the first female presidential nominee from a major US political party, criticized Trump’s plan to build “a great border wall” alongside the border with Mexico.
While pledging to enact a “path to citizenship” for migrants who are in the country illegally, Clinton attacked Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S. -Mexico border.
As she prepared to deliver her speech, sources familiar with the matter said the FBI is investigating a cyber intrusion at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that may be related to an earlier hack at the Democratic National Committee. She filled her speech with some of the dozens of policy proposals she has rolled out during the past year, everything from repairing roads to combating Alzheimer’s disease.
If oratory and language that brings out goose bumps is not necessarily her forte, then over these four days, Ms Clinton and her team, along with those who have spoken on her behalf, have sought to present her as a woman of action, achievement and humanity.
She also spoke of how the country had changed since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, telling the crowd, “We meet at a moment of great peril, but also of great promise for the country we love”.
“To drive real progress, you have to change both hearts and laws” Clinton said.
“It’s more we need someone who is qualified and proven to be able to handle these tough situations”, Matos said.
Clinton, resplendent in a white suit, came out to “Fight Song” and chants of “Hillary, Hillary” as many delegates around the arena waved American flags.
President Barack Obama painted a picture of contrast colored heavily by Clinton’s formidable résumé.
Obama led the charge on Wednesday, stirringly hailing Clinton as his political heir.
Winning the 2016 primary wasn’t easy, either.
In Philadelphia this week, Democratic U.S. Sen. “I think we’ll stay here all night because I don’t really want to go home and watch that crap”, he said.
Indeed, the first day of the convention was noticeable for the number of protests from supporters of Mr Sanders, the people who said they were “Bernie or Bust”.
They want everyone to read the almost 20,000 hacked emails released last weekend by WikiLeaks showing some DNC officials have been biased toward Clinton all along and attempted to undermine Sanders by proposing to push stories in the media saying his campaign was a mess and questioning his religious beliefs. “Your cause is our cause”.
Clinton was likely to offer a similarly upbeat message, drawing on an idea that has driven her throughout her career, that all Americans should be given the chance to fulfill their potential, a campaign aide said. She also promised to “liberate” millions of people already with student debt.
Four years later, Clinton was the junior senator from NY and already being mentioned as a possible future presidential candidate.
As she accepted her nomination as the first woman to be the Presidential standard bearer for a major American political party, ” the former Secretary of State added: “He loses his cool at the slightest provocation.
He’ll be the He in the VIP box watching as She accepts the presidential nomination.
Clinton’s husband, former president and possible first First Gentleman, launched into the lengthy, well-trodden tale of their first meeting and long courtship in his speech Tuesday, a play to humanize a wife so often labeled as “cold” by the press.
It may also be a close race: Recent polls show Clinton and Trump neck and neck. “We will not build a wall-instead, we will build an economy where everyone who wants a good job can get one”, Hillary said. Others in the Wells Fargo Center convention hall shouted: “USA, USA”, in support of Panetta, also a former defense secretary. Given the turbulence and terrorism across the globe, she said Americans are “looking for steady leadership”.
But she said the nation must keep going until all 161 million women and girls in the country have the opportunities they deserve.
“Hillary Clinton is respected around the world, not just by leaders but by the people they serve”, he said.
