Clinton warns of ‘moment of reckoning’ in US

In a combative Democratic National Convention speech in which Clinton name-checked her Republican opponent 22 times, she said of Trump, “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”.

“We will not build a wall”, Clinton said.

And her take? “We heard Donald Trump’s answer last week at his convention. We have to decide whether we’re going to work together so we can all rise together”.

The first woman to lead a major U.S. political party toward the White House, Clinton was greeted by a crowd of cheering delegates eager to see history made in the November election. Indeed, Bernie Sanders unequivocally endorsed Clinton for president on the opening night of the convention and reaffirmed his support at various events throughout the week.

“I’m anxious about Donald Trump”, said Laura Calvo, a superdelegate from Oregon. But according to Nielsen’s ratings data, more Americans tuned in to watch Donald Trump’s acceptance speech than Clinton’s.

For months Clinton has been criticized for the fact that her campaign (and its message) do not fit nicely onto a bumper sticker.

Clinton will accept the White House nomination later Yesterday on the gathering’s final night, but Trump’s team exhorted Republicans to steer clear. I’m so proud to be your mother and so proud of the woman you’ve become.

She repeated her attacks on what Clinton characterized as his inexperience and ignorance, calling Trump’s candidacy a danger to the country.

The real estate mogul did not appreciate Clinton knocking his ability to deal with a national campaign.

But if Obama plagiarized the line from Trump Jr., then Trump Jr. had to first plagiarize the line from Obama, who has used a version of it at least twice before. President Obama knows all too well how high stakes are Thursday night when Clinton will give her speech.

“Every generation of Americans has come together to make our country freer, fairer, and stronger”, she said.

But there is more at stake than his legacy, Mr. Obama warned, comparing the politics of the Republican candidate Mr. Trump to fascism and Islamism.

Earlier in the evening, a text went out to Bernie Sanders supporters from the Vermont senator’s camp asking they extend “respect” to HRC as her supporters showed him during his July 25 speech to the convention.

“People ask me all the time, how does she do it?”

Kaine, in introducing Clinton, told the wildly friendly crowd, “weren’t you proud” about how “optimistic” and “upbeat” the Democrat convention was, a contrast to the Republican convention in Cleveland that was a journey “through Donald Trump’s mind, and that is a very frightening place”.
