Clinton wins historic nomination – with a boost from Sanders

Clinton, a former Secretary of State and US senator, is the first woman ever to be the nominee of a major USA political party, and if elected, she would also be the first spouse of a president to occupy the White House.

Her rival from the primaries, Bernie Sanders moved a resolution for her nomination when the roll call got to his home state of Vermont – sending out a vital message of unity for a party struck by deep divisions.

The delegates from the state of South Dakota gave Clinton the 2,383 tally needed to clinch the nomination and ignited a boisterous celebration among thousands of delegates gathered at the party convention in Philadelphia.

A group of Bernie Sanders supporters stormed out of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday evening.

But it was Sanders’s call to nominate Clinton on the convention floor that led his supporters to set their sights on the media tent outside of the Wells Fargo Center. Delegates approved Sanders’ motion nearly unanimously through a voice vote.

McKelvey said that on Monday, as Sanders supporters prepared for a speech from the Vermont senator, Democratic party officials rounded up the delegation’s campaign signs.

“I suspect we are witnessing an event that will fundamentally change American politics”, said James, of Flint, Michigan.

March participant Tiara Willis, 24, of Philadelphia, said she subscribes to the slogan “I’m with her …” Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., as he speaks during the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Monday, July 25, 2016.

“Because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States”, she said.

And when it came time for her moment, Emmett smiled broadly, waved to the convention crowd and declared that Arizona was casting “51 votes for the next president of the United States of America, Hillary Rodham Clinton”. Bernie Sanders staged a walkout Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in response to Hillary Clinton getting the nomination. After locking up the nomination, she tweeted, “History,” and posted a video of Sanders’ motion with the words, “Stronger together.”

Mr Bill Clinton’s potential new title is perhaps the strangest twist in a political career known for its second acts. He said he intends to vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, quoting the turn-of-the-last-century socialist labour leader Eugene Debs as saying, “I’d rather vote for what I want and lose than what I don’t want and win”. Her ties to large corporations and banks have put her at odds with party members who truly believed in Sanders and his stance against Wall Street. Mothers whose children have been killed by law enforcement or due to gun violence spoke of their pain. The Republican-controlled U.S. House voted in 1999 to impeach Clinton for lying under oath about the affair, but the Senate acquitted him of the charges.

While Hillary Clinton has been pioneering, she has also been controversial, her achievements coupled with scandal. She added that Clinton continued to call and check on her for years.

Former President Bill Clinton, a string of celebrities and other speakers will offer prime-time testimonials to her career highlights and advocacy efforts, hoping to soften her image and resistance to her campaign.

“Tonight is the night when Hillary Clinton will break the glass ceiling for every woman and girl in this country”. According to a recent Washington Post poll, only 8% of former Sanders supporters said that they would support Trump over the former secretary of state.
