Clippard rejoins Yankees in deal with Diamondbacks

First reported by Jon Heyman, the Yankees have acquired reliever Tyler Clippard from the Diamondbacks. Clippard, 31, got his start with the Yankees after being drafted in the ninth round of the 2003 draft. The Yankees are expecting to make multiple moves prior to Monday’s trade deadline and while the team is now in rebuilding mode, they also want to add a veteran arm to replace Miller. He is the second Diamondbacks reliever to be dealt to the AL East this summer, joining Brad Ziegler of the Red Sox. Clippard is obviously a major downgrade from those two and has allowed seven runs over his last three appearances to push his ERA up to 4.30. The 24-year-old Campos is 9-3 with a 3.20 ERA this year in 20 combined starts for Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Campos was acquired in the 2012 trade that brought right-hander Michael Pineda to the Yankees. No word at the moment who the Yankees will send to Arizona. Campos will help refuel a depleted Diamondbacks starting pitching depth, after giving up Aaron Blair in the Shelby Miller trade, and Braden Shipley debuting.
