Clippers’ Branden Dawson arrested on spousal abuse charge

Dawson was being held on $50,000 bail.

Dawson was booked into jail Sunday morning and was not with the team for its afternoon game against the Cavaliers. Dawson was arrested for an incident involving his live-in girlfriend.

Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Herrera says the 23-year-old player was taken into custody around 7:30 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the Playa Vista area, where the team’s practice facility is located on the city’s westside. He averaged 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds while playing for the Clippers in the off-season Summer League.

In 27 total games played for Erie, Bakersfield and Grand Rapids this season, Dawson is averaging 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.6 minutes.

Dawson was a star player at Michigan State before being selected in the 2nd round in the 2015 draft. Dawson was drafted by the Clippers in the second round last season.

A native of Gary, Indiana, Dawson attended Lew Wallace High School and played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans.
