Clippers Spoil Kobe’s Final Christmas Game
Point guard Chris Paul had 23 points and six assists, and the Clippers withstood a mild fourth-quarter threat to beat the Lakers 94-84 at Staples Center.

And those weren’t the words Friday of Bryant’s coach, Byron Scott. He played 26 minutes and sat out the entire fourth quarter while the Lakers outscored the Clippers 27-9.
“I thought we played okay”, the Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said, “I thought we could’ve been so much better, even with the lead in the first half”. Bryant has appeared in 16 different Christmas Day games in his career, and while those games usually featured more prominently than Friday’s nightcap, it was a fitting farewell to a player closing a truly special career.
The 65th All-Star Game takes place in Toronto on February 14, and is an annual contest of NBA elite stars as voted by basketball’s global fan base.
Bryant is the leading scorer in NBA All-Star Game history with 280 points and he ranks second in All-Star appearances behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar s 19.
The Lakers stayed out of the paint just as the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan threw down an alley-oop lob.
It is his last season, but for Bryant, this is the first time he has ever been listed on the front court in All-Star game voting, according to ESPN.
The Clippers led 32-22 after one quarter.
“But I listened to that song every single day because it just reminded me of that feeling”. In a moment that encapsulated the Lakers’ season thus far, Lakers rookie Larry Nance batted the ball into his own basket.
Despite his mediocre form this season, Bryant has logged 719,235 votes, more than 200,000 ahead of Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (510,202).
Griffin was third among Western Conference frontcourt players with 182,107 votes, also trailing Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant (349,473).
“We could either get worse or we could get better”, said Randle, who managed just three of 11 field goals, but led the Lakers with eight boards.
Jordan, as a largely grounded Washington Wizard and after both of his retirements, made the All-Star team his final two years.
Although the game did not turn out how many Kobe fans would have liked, it was nice for everyone to see him play one last time on Christmas. The Lakers could not complete the comeback.

But unlike Bryant, the 38-year-old Pierce hasn’t decided if this is his final run.
