Clooney says lawyers will pursue sanctions against Maldives
A group of human rights legal professionals stated Thursday they’ll search worldwide sanctions and journey bans towards the Maldives as a part of their efforts to safe the discharge of the nation’s jailed former president. Doctors have said he narrowly escaped with his life, and is now recovering in hospital.

Being flexible with gender roles while casting, Clooney explained, is one way for producers to creatively manage the dearth of meaty roles for leading ladies in Hollywood.
The Maldives, an Indian Ocean archipelago, is a high-end tourist destination.
Lawyer Amal Clooney told reporters that they were taking the actions because the government had not fulfilled many of its promises to ex-President Mohamed Nasheed.
George Clooney is gearing up to celebrate his first wedding anniversary with wife Amal on September 27, but it turns out the busy actor and producer already has a work obligation on the big day! “It is disappointing it has come to this”.
COLOMBO, Sept 11 global human rights lawyer Amal Clooney on Friday raised concerns over the Maldives’ judiciary after a court dismissed an appeal that could help the release of jailed former president Mohamed Nasheed, who was convicted of terrorism in a case that has drawn worldwide criticism. She was checked by two prison officials before the 90-minute discussion with Nasheed.
However, fellow defence team member Jared Genser today accused the Maldives government of bugging a conversation his team had with Nasheed during a jailhouse visit.
The charge against Nasheed relates to the ordering of the arrest of an allegedly corrupt judge when he was still president in 2012.

Nasheed is serving a 13-year jail term after a rushed trial that found him guilty of “terrorism”. However its image has suffered in recent years due to prolonged political unrest. He ruled from 2008 to February 2012, when he was forced to resign following a mutiny by police and troops.
